That's just silly. I've spent plenty in other games for cute little baubles (I love me some fluff), but I have an issue with subscription games that do not let you get all items simply by playing the game.
As of now, I think they're handling it well since most (all?) items are available in game during various seasonal events or by the luck of your retainer service. Either you're patient and wait for the event, or you spend some cash to get it now. If they start constantly adding items that are ONLY found in their shop, then there may be an issue.

they took it too far when they sold those dyes
Putting glamours from other games in via the cash shop is a good idea, imo. It effects noone that doesnt really want a glamour from a character that isnt ffxiv related.I don't see how putting glamours in the cash shop is pay to win. Pay to win means you get ahead in the game by throwing money into the cash shop. F2P games use things like item enhancements and equipment with actual stats to get people to spend money. Be happy that the mount that IS in the cash shop isn't gated behind a gacha box.
Honestly, our cash shop is pretty low key. I don't mind spending $1 to dye an item a less-seen color. *shrugs*
I'd like a Rydia outfit for my female character very much, but getting one via an event would take a fair amount of developing resources I imagine. (plus it would probably be one time limited as well, similar to lightnings event)
However this topic is about items that have no direct relation, and thus no actual place in ffxiv otherwise. That's just silly. I dunno, I find it real strange that many of you buy the CE just for the dragon statue (which doesnt look remotely great), you would raise your voices at having an awesome looking glamour for a fraction of that same price.
It seems many people (in the world) dont realise that ''freedom of opinion'' is not quite the same as ''the freedom to be stupid'' ''different opinion'' is used too often as excuse.
I'd rather have the items I'd want via cash shop then not at all. (dependant on price tho, obviously). And as mentioned before, this isn't going to cause a problem on a small scale, if it's done a lot though, it will add up.
I mean think about it. What will keep people striving to get things and give a feeling of accomplishment? Working towards a goal and feeling accomplishment at achieving it are big parts of an MMO.
And while I suppose it is fair to include it as an option sometimes, there should at least always be reasonable ways to obtain the same things in game.
I'm not self-centered enough (well more like I dont care enough in this respect) to ask SE to make a FFIV event just so I can have a Rydia outfit. I mean hey great if they make such an event, im sure a lot of people would enjoy it, apart from myself. (and the outfit!)
But then, yeah what about all the other games?
For that matter some characters/outfits/weapons/etc are just a lot more popular then others (across games).
Having some glamour or something (for a reasonable price) available in the cash shop would save development time and planning, I think.
Now if we were talking about FFXIV story related or lore related items I would agree. Those should be available via playing the game.
However, this is talking about items not directly related to this game.

I don't get why there has to be a distinction for items belonging to the world of Eorzea, and those pulled in from other games. I don't follow the lore of the game, I skip CSs, and I've never played any FF games aside from XI. If I think an item is cute, I should have a way to obtain the item in-game, whether or not it's Eorzea related. Cash shop only items is the way of B2P games, and I can only hope that never creeps into XIV.Putting glamours from other games in via the cash shop is a good idea, imo. And these same people were on the forums complaining about not being able to purchase the physical CE and get their overpriced dragon statue. When it comes to vanity items I'd say most of the rage comes from not being able to obtain the cash shop items in game with some other method, not because people care how others spend their money. A lot of people don't think they should have to spend more than the subscription they're paying to access all content, including glamour, and personally I agree with them.
Yup.
Because the internet makes sense people!
Because it has nothing to do with the game.I don't get why there has to be a distinction for items belonging to the world of Eorzea, and those pulled in from other games. Besides. If youve not played other FFs, and even skip all CSs in the game, why even comment? This topic has no relation to you at all.
Yup, the internet. And how they must insist on proving it right. Again, with each post.
GW2 is also a major fail, especially after all their broken promises regarding their 'cash shop'Am I the only one who doesn't want FFXIV to be filled to the brim with references/armour/whatever from other Final Fantasy games? But as to your point, I'd rather they be in game from the Gold Saucer or from Veteran Rewards (wouldn't mind the odd extra mount on the cash shop). Guild Wars 2 doesn't have a subscription fee so they kinda do need to do that to make money.
