Maybe that item really isn't worth 90k to begin with.
Just because you value an item at 90k doesn't mean anyone else, or the market as a whole will also value it at 90k.
Yes you can point to recent market purchases, but you may have noticed it on an upward trend, and right now it could be going on a downward trend.

You can try to play the market like that if you want.
But one day you're gonna be the one stuck holding the Hot Potato.
When that happens, don't come crying that "the item is now worthless" when you're stuck with a bunch of them because you tried to make a quick buck reselling it.

The way people make QQ threads about the market is laughable at best!

You'd get significantly less reposting though.

The only time it bothers me is when I see material items selling for 1~10 gil >.> Especially stuff like the Shriekshrooms or Aldgoat Skins that have fairly low drop rates.

Well shriekshrooms can be bought from NPCs for like 5g
But for aldgoat skins that low - I'd buy those as the leather can go up to 1k or more sometimes on Balmung

Sometimes I just need to clean out inventory as quickly as I can. I'll check the sale history to see how quickly it cycles though.

Thats fool's logic. People buy the item that costs less, whether its 20k, 40k, or 10 gil. Undercuting by stupid amounts actually means you make less gil yourself, because the item you might want to sell again in the future is now worth less.

However I don't mind people that think like this. By being impatient/lazy(with money) you created an economy that allowed me to fund my mansion. Thanks.

Yes, but people like you create a different kind of demand. You have no interest in the item, you just want to re-sell. It's still demand in the end, and the seller is still getting gil. Whether or not a person would have gotten more money if they had placed it up for more in the first place is up for debate and dependent on the situation/item.

When I place something on the market for a bit less than the lowest price, I'm doing so because I don't want to risk placing something on the market, only to see the supply for the item to overwhelm the demand before my item sells (causing the price to plummet). When a person buys out the competition, they risk crashing the market for the item. The seller that you buy from might think, "Oh man, this item sold fast for an amount of gil that I'm happy with, I'm going to go craft/gather more of this and put more of it up". At which point, buying up the items creates the opposite of the intended effect. Which was to make money from re-selling it.

I undercut often because I have only 2 retainers, and I'd rather just sell the crap quickly to open up spots on my retainer to sell more garbage. If I put something up for sale for say...90k, and then next time I check the MB someone has one posted at 89,900, I'm not going to match his price and play this baby undercutting game 100 gil at a time. I'll chop it down 10k. And do it an additional 10k every time he undercuts me by 100 gil.
Is this stupid of me? Only if my goal is to make as much gil as possible, which it isn't. My goal is to free up my precious inventory space in time for me to free up space again.

    Edit: InB4 "Just discard/NPC vendor it." Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't
