Voice chat exists . Skype or T3.

Though I knew a guy that was so into trying to be a girl online he found voice modulation software to make him sound like a girl over Skype and t3, I assume most won't go to those lengths. Otherwise video chat Skype with them.

I know a few people, one being one of my best friends, who found his fiance in game, and they live together now rl.

There's many people here that wouldn't mind finding someone, I think because we as gamers are much more similar and comfortable with each other than we are IRL trying to find someone.

I don't see how there's any insecurity in his post. Also I do think you're stretching a bit by saying he's promoting sexual harassment. Do I feel it's wrong to try and identify someone by their avatar? No. Do I feel it's wrong to stereotype and trope players into categories? Yes. I do think there's a fine line between harassment and curiosity, which the OP is treading.

Wondering how many guys missed out on awesome games like Tomb Raider and Metroid because they have no choice but to play as female. You know how many games don't give you an option to be anything other than male? As a female if I had such a problem with my own identity that I couldn't play the opposite gender in a video game, I wouldn't have played very many video games. But guess what: it's a video game! Fantasy! As someone pointed out, we throw fire balls and ride horse sized birds. If you can suspend your disbelief to enjoy that, then you should be able to not let the gender be an issue. It's part of the fantasy.

I will never understand why a man will want to play as a female in a MMO. I've heard the "I want my own eye candy" argument about a million times. But yeah... I still don't get it. You guys stick out like a sore thumb. So you might as well play as men.

Just... what? All of the men that I know that play female characters are open about it. They aren't playing a female character to deceive anyone into thinking they're girls. That does happen, yes, but it's not exactly the norm. I've run across maybe half a dozen men that do that in the entire time that I've been on the internet (around 20 years now). They're playing one because they want to. Who the hell died and gave you the right to tell people what gender their avatar on an online game should be? Why do you even care?

Any female MMO gamer that announces that they are indeed a female might as well scream "please cyber me." That is how 99% of the MMO population interprets that sort of behavior. If you don't like that then I'm sorry but it's the truth. Enjoy the attention or keep your business to yourself.

You do realize that males and females are almost evenly split in gaming these days, right? it's not nearly as male dominated as it used to be. Why would a girl think that another girl was fishing for cyber just because she says she's a girl? There goes half of your 99% right there. That number was either a gross exaggeration, a blatant fabrication, or just a stupid thing to say. In any case, just because you think that way about females doesn't make it the truth. We are not just here for the amusement of males, and stating that we're female does not necessarily constitute a desperate grab for male attention. Perhaps you are the one with the problem here.

The homosexual male population in this game is just mind blowing. Is it actually rated as the LBGT friendly MMO in some popular magazine or something? This is the only MMO I know where women have less of a chance of getting hit on when actually playing a female toon.

And what if it was? What's wrong with having a lot of homosexual males around? I personally think they can be wonderfully fun to hang out with (just like straight people, omg!) and I'm glad they feel so welcome on this game, whatever the reason may be for that. Does it threaten your manhood somehow to know that there are men around that enjoy the company of other men in that way? Are you perhaps just insecure? I've had people hit on my character as a male and as a female, and so what? Why would that bother me in the slightest?

It's not nearly as rare as you think it is. You probably just don't realize it when you interact with them.

I'm a guy who always plays female toons. I've been called weird and gay for it. Idc. And, no, I wouldn't give two shits if the person I bonded with is also a guy. It's a video game lol. I think you'd have to be kind of homophobic to even think about that in this context.

To answer OP, it's hard to explain but it's all about experiences and understanding women. The more you hang out around them, the more you get to see the real differences even they are butch type.
