That's not how it works. People hitting F5 repeatedly are "the problem." And the problem isn't the people, it's the vendor, who obviously doesn't have the bandwidth for this.

At one point the site told me my cart was empty. upon trying to buy another it told me I already had one in cart. Never made it to the actual cart so I'm hoping it still in there

It's possible that there's a reservation system after all, and all the extra ones people have in their carts are getting counted toward total availability.

I now have two in my cart by accident..... and I can't load my cart to remove it.... and my plane is going to start descending in 15 minutes and I won't be able to finish my order aergghghghghg
