Nope, don't limit any colors to any specific fabric/items. That kind of defeats the purpose of the thread, personally I want to be able to dye my armor whatever color regardless of material.

If you ask me, dying should be done on the final product (applying it to the material in question) and there needs to be a broader array of colors available.
No one expects the miquote inquisition!!!
Well technically there's already 37 color dyes, just a lot of variants of red, blue and brown lol. I'd love to see some purple or orange honestly.
It seems like it should be pretty simple. You have the right crafting skill. You need the finished item you want to dye, and the dye itself.
Then you do the synth.
Then you fail the synth and you lose your gear. Then you cry.
I'm all for that without the gear lossIt should just dye it some ugly version of the color you wanted lol
I completely respect your personal preference that you want to have no restrictions on dye/material combinations.
My personal preference is to keep restrictions on dye/material combinations. Perhaps a few more dyes for each fabric (only black for dodo leather and brown for toad leather is pretty skimpy). And please make use of many of the lacquers and enamels that are in game but hardly used.
I would love to apply enamels to shiny buckles and then use them in making clothing/armor. Or perhaps applying lacquers to color bows and staves?
Had a discussion with Yoshi-P about changing the color of you gear through crafting. Currently the strength of your gear is often demonstrated through color variance, however, in 1.19 we will be eliminating this system. Yoshida believes it will be possible to make it so you are able to change the color of your gear through crafting. However, since it is a higher priority for us to add new variations of equipment, we can't promise implementation, but we are looking into it.

I mean I'm okay for having metallic colors only for metallic things obviously you can't be applying those to regular fabric (and vice versa) but I'm just talking about the range of colors. I don't want to have red restricted to cotton or green restricted to velveteen or anything like that.
