I can't help but feel then that this sort of change doesn't effect you as much because you have multiple characters, all with max crafting. If SE releases something that limits one specialization to one character, you can shrug it off because you have multiple characters.

The rest of us that want to be able to do everything on a single character are shafted though.

It will continue to expand.
So, based on the information gleaned from this statement, there is no indication whatsoever that all DoH jobs will not be able to craft all given recipes. Only that based on your choice of specialization, you will gain access to new DoH skills that are only available for that particular class that makes crafting more proficient on that class.

Thank you. I'll go ahead and rest my case that people are getting all in an uproar over nothing, based on the information we currently have regarding this "Specialist" system.

Ah, but will facing north-by-northeast at 2:45 a.m. while the moon is a waning crescent result in a 27% increase in your chances to synthesize HQ mythril ingots!? That is real the question! ~Fernehalwes~

Actually, that quoted statement from that interview sounds a lot like the current job system we have. Maybe it's the DoH version of jobs? That may mean losing access to certain cross class skills but gaining others. Interesting but I hope Byregots and a few others remain available to all, I rely on it a lot XD

Oh dear, well I'm glad some other people understood what I was getting at. It's not about me wanting to feel awesome, it's just giving more people an actual purpose so we have reason to interact.

I liked the desynth specialization; my friend in the example actually needed to use me to desynth some stuff she couldn't do herself, whereas before desynth was introduced she was an all-in-one factory and I had nothing to offer her.

So I welcome further specialization to prevent people just grinding out the max gear and not needing help/trade with anyone else.

Specialization shouldn't be shoehorned into the system, it should occur organically through gear progression. It's such an obvious solution that I can't see why it hasn't been used so far.

Imagine if Ehcatl Sealants were not available before 2.4 and they were untradable, and you get the picture. Gating new crafting pieces behind some kind of grind would force people to initially "specialize" in one particular craft since you wouldn't be able to make everything all at once. If, say, it took one week to gather enough materials to make ONE mainhand that enabled you to craft some of the newest gear.

The most critical time for crafters is at the very beginning of a new patch, and without the means to omnicraft, players would have to pool resources to meet the huge demand of a new patch. This promotes cooperation and a healthy economy. In time, players would be able to eventually acquire all the materials they'd need to fully upgrade all their crafters, but at that point it wouldn't matter so much because it's already 2-3 months down the road and demand has bottomed out. In this way you can also please those of us who want to be able to do everything with their character. Then a new patch hits and the process is repeated.

You just said you welcome it so people will stop going to your friend and come to you. You know what else you can do? Get on her same level!

I'm quite sure this won't affect the way crafting with all DoH classes leveled works now. I'm hoping it will just address the issue that you can't craft proficiently in case you only leveled Weaver to 50 for example. I mean that perhaps in the expansion you can only level Weaver to 60, specialize in that and get the tools to craft high end recipies without unlocking all the other 7 crafting classes.

This has the potential to either be really good or really, really terrible.

On the one hand, if specialized items require crafted components from other specializations it may prove difficult, if not impossible to craft them. Unless all crafts are created equal, and they really never are, there will always be a larger group of people on one specialization than another, which pushes demand up for these items making them either ridiculously expensive or very rare. Usually both.

On the other hand, if specialization allows us to create items which are comparable to the strongest endgame equipment or even apply unique benefits to existing weapons and armor, then it has the potential to turn the crafting world upside down. And it really does NEED a good shake-up.
