What worries me is that they are taking down FFXI as well. You know it's bad if they're taking down their successful -(and subscribed)- MMO severs too.

This is the garentee that is has nothing to do with the games condition. They are potentially losing a good million or two in profits taking FFXI down for a extended duration. They would not be taking the servers down unless they absolutly had no choice. I assume they will give everyone on that game a free month of playtime in XI after this.

Seriously, using a natural disaster that caused more than a thousands of deaths (and could get worse) to further a personal agenda is absolutely disgusting. You, sir, have been reported, and should be ashamed.

Considering the massive damage to infrastructure and death toll, near complete loss of two nuclear power facilities, and the cutting of food and water to certain areas of Japan, I'd have considered this in SE's shoes as well. I can only hope that things will be resolved as best as they can, and that SE employees have not suffered family losses. I can wait a few days if needbe, even a week, Eorzea is not going anywhere, the people behind her have their priorities.

To be honest, this could be very good for FFXIV.

Servers shut down, people stop playing the game. One day turns to two, two turns to three, they find other avenues of entertainment. Unfortunately for SE, there are a lot of games out now that are better than FF14, and eventually when the servers do come back online, a lot of those people won't even bother logging on again.
