Huge Problem W/Loot Gluttony On JP Servers

Ever since I transferred to a JP data center, all my dungeons from lv15+ while leveling rogue, players clad in i120 gear will NEED on dungeon drops that could be used by myself or other leveling people who just don't have the gear. I've never been exposed to such a rude attitude in an MMO before, this is crazy. This goes on to this day, even people in raids will just blindly NEED everything.

Please people of Square Enix, make it so if a party member has a higher iLVL than the loot and another member exists that could really use the gear to level, make it so the higher players can't NEED but only GREED. I played on an English data center for a few weeks and never once ran into this problem, but as soon as I transferred to the JP one it was everywhere.

Square I know you don't care. This will probably just be blasted out of oblivion so you don't have to deal with the criticism. Just know that this is the last month you get my money because of this problem. It's just not fun anymore.

Has nothing to do with being on a JP server. This is a trend that's been building for some time across all regions. Unfortunately there isn't really a good fix for it beyond SE literally becoming the loot police.

Personally, I only Need on gear that's an actual upgrade for me and Greed on everything else. But that's becoming less common as time goes on.

I had the exact opposite experience, while I was on Mandragora - JPs were willing to greed everything unless it was really an upgrade - even crafting materials were greeded most of the time.

Then I moved to Balmung - if they can hit need, they usually will. Friend told me that NA = Need All

Edit: and to add, you can only NEED stuff based on the class you are currently on - if you want the gear you need to go that class. They are putting the time and effort in running the dungeon, just because your gear sucks more does not make you entitled to have the gear. They can choose to be nice to pass or take it to desynth/turn in for GC seals or whatever they want with it.

This is not spiteful or greedy behavior. Dungeons yield free items for desynthesis, glamour and company seals, which incentivizes players to revisit earlier dungeons.

You will outlevel dungeon gear so quickly that you should not stress it. There will always be a level-relevant quest or leve you could do for a similar item, anyway.

Yep I greed everything. Except, for example, when I tank a 4-man, then I will need the first tank item to make materia, and only greed the rest. Heck even crafting materials I only greed on, knowing full well for over a decade people will Need if the button is available regardless of game. I should stop being so nice.

This definitely doesn't have anything to do with JP vs NA servers. I have an alt on Leviathan and started as Arcanist, and on quite a few low level dungeon runs early on I would get an insta-bail healer, and do DPS & backup Healer roles, only for a Healer to join right before the final boss (after passing on the 1/3 and 2/3 progress runs I'm sure; even with the lockout timer it's no coincidence a lot of in progress joins happen at final boss even when short a tank or healer from the beginning), and they show up in at a minimum Soldiery gear, and Need on the casting gear at the end while I was all in low level NQ 15-20 quest reward gear which was the best I could get for my level up to that point. They actually didn't do the work of healing the dungeon, except for the last boss, in those cases- I did- so you better believe the first Job I rolled was Scholar so that wouldn't be happening anymore!

My suggestion for a rogue to not lose DoW dungeon gear, is if possible run with a caster DPS you know who wants to level that class, and that should improve your odds... at least you won't have a healer taking it.

It's not just those servers, it's everyone. If you are level 50, geared and end game those dungeon drops are a nice source of those 80k gc seals you need for zodiac, things to desynth for leveling your desynths, and glamming your gear. If this game didn't heavily incentivize the greeding/needing on this gear when the person already outgears the equipment people wouldn't do it as much. If you want all da gearz!!! preform with buddies who will agree to not roll on the stuff you want. Otherwise, if I'm running a dungeon with you for my dailies and I'm running to the benefit of the party in i120, I'd like something for my time spent in there too, so I'm going to need/greed on the drops for my respective class (and the other classes if they don't need it) so I can get the gc seals I need for retainer ventures, gc bombard cores, and leveling my desynths.

Sometimes it's the speed the Tank is pulling mobs that results in players needlessly clicking on "Need"

I've ended up with several untradeables this way and was like "oh, well I don't actually -need- it for this class", but there are other classes that I do play I could use it with. But when you end up with a ilevel 50, 70, 80 and 90 item, and you're not currently playing that class, you have no idea if that item is better because you're not wearing something to evaluate against to pick "Greed" or "Pass".

Like SE ~could~ improve the roll system (it already prevents you from need/greed'ing anything you already have) by not allowing "need" on items that the player already has a better item.

Why not? Because what you're describing is what the Greed button is for.

The OP isn't talking about losing out on gear he's not on the job for. He's talking about losing out on upgrades for his current job because someone in i2000 gear is Needing on low level drops.

Part of this does rely on people working and playing well with others.
