Yeah that's another reason why I was shocked it was her, If they keep the current cast + Y'shtola that is waaay to many casters haha.
Basically this.
Yshtola is also the first protagonist shown even during 1.0. She's the FFXIV representative, basically.
Nobody should be surprised especially after Theatrhythm used her.
Given the other two Dissidia games, I think there might be more than just one characters from XIV besides Y'shtola. Like how FFIV has Cecil, Kain and Golbez. I'm kinda hoping for Thancred with him using 2 daggers as his EX mode.
Not true,
The protagonist you meet in 1.0 depended on your starting city.
If Grid its Yda and Papalymo
If Limsa it's Yshtola
if Ul'dah its Thancred
And seeing as Ul'dah was pretty much the main hub back in 1.0, most people probably met Thancred first.

I was hoping for Gaius if there was ever another Dissidia game but I don't care about this unless it heads to the west and is on anything but the Vita.![]()
Yea but at least with casters you can have so much variety, how many hand to hand combat styles can you have that really feel unique?
Kefka has his wacky crazy magic that's hard to read
Kuja's magic is highly combo based, and is mostly either super long range or super short range, no real middle ground
Terra's magic is basically a middle road, with some combos and a lot of mid range attacks
Mateus's magic is almost exclusivly traps
Shantotto's magic is nothing but skill chains
Yuna's magic consists of long wind ups for big hits
For close range hand to hand, you got Prish with custom built combo's that can end in skill chains, and Tifa who has several short combo moves but she can instantly cancel and teleport behind target. I'm sure there are more methods to make a unique hand to hand fighter, but with the range allowed to casters, and only the devs imagination limiting what those magics can do, not too hard to see why there are so many.
