I understand if they don't want to show pictures of the new area, but it would be neat if they told us what is being done to each region. But I can pretty much guess.

Black Shroud will obviously be less like a maze and more like a forest.

Thanalan will probably still be desert like, but still make 1 of the three areas unique from one another.

I wished the Twelveswood would look a bit more sesonal. Falling leaves. An autumn like scenery. Or an area that's really dark and creepy, as the name suggests.

I would love to see thanalan be a bit more of a sand desert, although that might be the plan for some future area, i noticed that there is an unaccessable Sand desert in the distance just south of uldah. (Altepa, was a great zone) Although i feel thanalan is going for a more "Tahrongi canyon"esque feel, i think the zones need some more mystery, like the enormous spine in the before mentioned tahrongi. things that induce a sense of scale and adventure, ffxi did this alot with the Crags and such.

The problem with a sandy desert is that it's just big and boring.

Do some google image searches on the Australian outback. Much more interesting.

All I want in terms of all this is to be able to say "Meet me near the Giant Cliff-Side with dragon bones sticking out of it" or "There are cool mobs near the giant glowing crevace" instead of " we are south of camp horizon" and boring stuff like that.

    Classic FF landscapes:
    -Craters
    -Temples
    -Abandoned Castles
    -Floating Islands
    -what else?

The impression I got from the statements in the magazine was that they'd be carving each massive region into about three sections and making each section more unique. So now we have the Black Shroud and in it is the South Shroud, North Shroud, West Shroud, etc. and they all look extremely similar - we see them all as just one massive area. But they would change it so that the Black Shroud is just a region, and individual areas within all look unique.

The extent they change it is the real question though. Are they still going to use all the same textures but just have a layout redesign? Are they going to keep the areas the same but just color them with new textures and add landmarks to give them a different appearance? Or are they really going to replace one massive area with 3-4 smaller ones that have entirely new models and textures? That's what I would like to know
for when I try and use it to hype the game to friends.

There's a VERY disturbing trend I see here posting images of forests and waterfalls. This is NOT what Final Fantasy series is about.

I want to be absolutely clear here to show what SE can do with environments and how high we should set the bar for them to accomplish this task:

    Jaw droppingly gorgeous! http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/fi...ystal_lake.jpg

    Memorable landmark http://www.acceleratingfuture.com/mi...ages/amano.jpg

    Hauntingly alien yet beautiful http://cdn.inthegame.nl/wp-content/u...p1024527-1.jpg

    Detail but grand scale http://images.ffonline.it/img/data/m...ept_art_02.jpg

    Unexpected colors http://www.firingsquad.com/games/fin.../images/34.jpg

    Who could forget http://everyview.files.wordpress.com...-cover-art.jpg

Medieval didn't always mean boring for SE http://www.jakerowell.com/blog/wp-co...ign_alter5.jpg

Further proof of the above also my favorite http://animewallpapers.lt/albums/nes...tasy_IX_06.jpg

At best the environments turn into symbols of the entire theme of the game http://files.myopera.com/D4rk%204ng3..._Alexandre.jpg

Even the most boring FFX area looks better than your average XIV rock formation http://animated-wallpaper.org/wp-con...mbnails/21.jpg

    Then to my main point:

    THIS http://ve3dmedia.ign.com/images/05/8...-02_normal.jpg

This sure as I breathe cannot be turned into a memorable place by snuffling few trees around and making this field have few more waterfalls as rest of the game.

We should NOT be asking SE for specific landscapes by sending them photographs of the real world. They need complete 100% artistic freedom to mold the landscape to be of Final Fantasy series quality.

I say they should take all the time in the world they need to make XIV match their latest FF titles visually and only implement it when it's ready.

If they just re-color few of the Gridania trees to be more brown in few areas that will definitely make me uninstall this game for good because I see a world like the current Eorzea when I look out of my window.

I don't think we can ask for anything specific except to be surprised by the new landscape and to be compelled to explore it just to see what the next area even looks like.

Unique environments is one of the key elements of the FF series and besides LL and Uldah I don't think this game lives up to it's legacy anywhere else.

The Craig of FF11 was really a beautiful and unique landmark.. when i saw it for the first time in LaThein i was in awe. I also hope these new landmarks will be particular and unique, FF-esque, as well. I'm sure we'll se a gigantic tree ala Secret of Mana somewhere in Black Shroud eheh (but hopefully with a particular design).

But the most important thing is that these landmarks should be "interactive" (go inside, etc.) in some ways and not only scenographic monuments..
