From experience it's more than the leveling curve that produces bad tanks, dps, and heals. Really, becoming actually good at doing a specific role has usually taken research outside of the game and practice. I'm still waiting for the day any game manages to do tutorials right, and that day seems like a very distant one.
Great post and well said. Now, nothing personal against my brethren who enjoy a good party grind, but I think we can all agree that camping in one place on the map and killing enemy after enemy for as long as we can pales, let's say, in comparison to real life activities like sports, exercise, reading, watching a movie, driving, going somewhere and having a conversation, etc. I know a lot of people enjoy it nonetheless but if you are one of them I'd ask you to ask yourself if you would still enjoy it if you had never done it.
People reading this forum must be asking themselves what the hell is going on with this game to see all these threads about party grinding popping up all over the place, like a bunch of kids crying out for joy once the grown ups have left the room. I understand it's just a refreshing bit of FFXI nostalgia but this isn't really directed at you, it's directed at the dev team.
So, dev team, what's wrong? Did you get a little overexcited in adding new features in this patch that you didn't take care with the leveling curve? I get it, you want to add and tweak as you go along. How about quests that require multiple stops, going back to the NPC, going out again, coming back, requiring something like 20-30 mins of time in some cases, for a reward of progress equal to maybe 6 enemies that according to your own reckoning should only take 4 minutes or so to defeat? What are you doing to this game??
And before anyone decides to pipe up and explain that they haven't noticed an issue - just stop to think for a second about the millions of other gamers out there who are not going to give this game a chance when they see stuff like this. And before you dismiss "millions of other gamers" -ask yourself how much longer this game will be around when it is universally panned in the press and only a few thousand people even play.. FOR FREE.
I suggest the dev team look into rewarding people for doing quests and not doing something monotonus over and over. Hell, I suggest the dev team read some books by B.F. Skinner. You don't want monotony in the gameplay? Simple, you adjust sp for quests and other content aside from free battle. Don't keep these bad habits up because you're continuing to embarrass yourselves in the gaming community. And yes, that is something you should be worrying about if you want a successful game.
It's aspects like this that make me lose hope in the game. Leveling balance via doing content aka leves and quests vs via grind is completely broken. Also like you said most quests are a nuisance.
Some quests are: get quest in town, run 15 -30 minutes, kill 5 mobs, come back, get 2k exp. This alone will make 9/10 normal gamers quit the game. It's becoming more evident that the dev team is out of touch with the current gaming world.
i prefer excited quest that grind pt, grinp pt was the mmo text era in 90+ we are 2011 i prefer lvl solo that party, come on wait for hours for sp party is boring
Do you ever stop QQing? How have you not died from dehydration yet? It's simply amazing.

They can still co exist but pushing solo content to a back burner while prioritizing grind parties without proper search system or exp spots is one of the dumbest things I've seen devs do.
There's some sort of trinity between Neptune, gifthorse/giftforce/Vesperia, and Azurymber going on.[Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XIV FORUM Guidelines.]

Please Please PLEASE make the empire attacks more frequent! Those are really fun, trying to push them back and the farther you push them, the more difficult it becomes. It's like playing a DoTA game from a personal pov. Of course, adding an SP reward for it would be much appreciated.
But yeah, that kind of event is fun, and I've heard of similarly fun types of quests coming soon so I'm willing to stick around to see them.
When all else fails, Heck the Bed.
So basically, everyone is under the impression that WoW invented dungeons, raids, and questing, and that any game that includes these is a WoW clone. How tragic.
