    Ehhh... Really? OP, really?

Get over yourself. There are homosexual couples in Eorzea, it's a well established fact. So there wasn't a homosexual couple in the Valentione's quest, it's really not that big a deal. Why do you care so much to see that represented in the V-Day seasonal event quest?

It's not as big a deal as you want it to be.

Maybe next year? I don't care either way. Love is love.

The Wanderer's Palace HM quest has the most adorable gay couple. It's not like SE's trying to shove the idea of same-sex groupings away, it's just that Japan has its own ridiculous protocol for stuff like this. All things considered, FFXIV has been VERY progressive and deserves applause for all it's done for equality.

this thread is a train wreck lol

I'm all for representation as a gay/minority player myself, but there are deeper issues at hand if anyone is going to be offended over something so small in the scheme of things.

There's nothing wrong with wanting more representation in-game than same-sex bonding, but I think SE is doing an ok job (considering they're Japanese and as a society they're a lot more constricting on minority issues), and will continue to do so as time goes on. Frankly, if there was too much gay representation, I would be pretty uncomfortable as, not only are there are a lot of other real-life sexual/romantic minorities, I'm not so disassociated from straight love that I can't relate to it and respect that it's the majority.

It would be cute to see a non-straight couple in a future Valentine's event and I would definitely appreciate it, but I know my identity is validated in many other ways, in-game and out, so I'm not worried or upset at all. I think anyone this upset over this issue needs to remember that homosexual acceptance and representation has made leaps and bounds of progress in comparison to other sexual and romantic identities, particularly in this game.

you want to know why? because the dev didn't add them. simple enough. quit making it worse than it is, quit making it an assault on gay people.

    what is more offensive:
    - being properly represented (by that i mean gay marriage, gay couples in lore) in all but one event (valentines).
    or
    - adding in a ton of "minorities" in for the sake of pleasing everyone?
the fact that they would just be thrown in just to please you doesn't sound offensive to you?

it's their game, they honestly can not please everyone. that is wishful thinking.
the fact that you're trying to force them to change or cater towards from what differs from their artistic vision can also be seen as offensive to them.

what you're asking for is "the token black guy".
    and THAT is offensive.

You have to consider that SE is trying to protect the interests of both parties all the time. They allowed Eternal Bond to have same-sex unions, yes, to make homosexual couples happy, but they also changed the ceremony's name (remember Yoshida's frantic "Don't call it marriage!" in the interview?) to not offend the sensibility of those against same-gender couples. They also gave the ceremony several ways to seal the two participants (a toast, signing a document, a kiss) to give space to other kinds of boundaries between the couple. So that, to you, they can say "Yes, same-gender couples can be together!", and to those against same-gender marriage, they can say "Oh it's not a marriage. It's a pact of undying loyalty to each other. They don't even have to kiss! Even best friends can do this!".

It's a very delicate topic that can cause great turmoil in the community (and the parents of some of the younger members of the community) is one platter of the libra gets too heavy. So I personally wouldn't expect them to put any obvious hint of same-gender relationships in the game. They may put characters with obvious tendencies/behaviors (Thinking of Alexiei Mayakov in FFXI), but I doubt they'd give them partners or display them into romantic affairs. They're selling a product, and in doing so they need to please the vast majority of the potential playerbase. And the majority leans on the etherosexual side, so they will follow that approach over another.

As for Valentine being depressing to single.. as a single person, I can understand. But that's only because of how you force yourself to look at the festivity. I was raised and being taught that St. Valentine is the celebration of love, any kind of love, and until we had to separated, I mostly celebrated it with my mother (she is devorced and I'm an ever-single girl), because I loved her and she loved me. Sexual intercourse has nothing to do with St. Valentine. You can celebrate your love for a relative, a pet, or even one of your idols. To claim that it is a day just for couples is, to me, a great display of arrogance, because not everyone can have a partner, but everyone can have someone they love someway. And arrogant people shouldn't deserve a special day for themselves.
