DPS classes typically get somewhere around a 20 to 30 minute queue time even during peak hours. If you play at off-peak times, it can be longer, even exceeding an hour occasionally. You can deal with that either by making that wait bearable (i.e. finding other things to do in the meantime while you're waiting on a group to form) or by shortening the wait (either finding a friend who is a tank or healer or becoming a tank or healer yourself).

Are you in a Free Company? Or have any friends who play (and are on the same server)? Just queuing in Duty Finder will get you a group eventually, but if you can ask people to party with you and run it together, that can be quicker in many cases. You can either put together a full four person group, or you can pair up with another player or two and queue in Duty Finder to get the remaining people you need. (If you're queuing as a duo, though, you'll want either a tank or healer as your partner. Two damage dealers can party together and queue through DF, but it wouldn't shorten the queue time any from what you see as a solo DD.) This solution involves making friends with people, at least to the point where you can ask them to run content together with you, and making such friends isn't a bad goal to have anyway.

Or, if you're going with the fill in the queue time with other activities option, there are FATEs, sidequests, leves, hunting log, etc, that you can do with your current class, or you can unlock other classes and start their quests and hunting logs. For now, I'd stick mainly with combat classes (DoW or DoM). Gathering and crafting classes will be a good option while waiting on later dungeons, once you're past this first trio of them and can unlock retainers. Until then, as you've already noticed, crafting is rather too hard on your limited inventory space.

Oh, and Sastasha is the first of a trio of three dungeons that come nearly back to back in the main scenario quest chain. (There's a single quest in between each that's just there to send you to the area where you'll find the next dungeon and explain the story reason for it.) Usually, after getting past one of these roadblocks in the story progression, you'll get another lengthy string of soloable quests you can do at your own pace, but at this point, you're going to have to get through that waiting game three times in a row for Sastasha, Tam-Tara, and Copperbell.

No, you just have to complete the first three dungeons and do the next quest. Retainers are unlocked by the Scions of the Seventh Dawn quest.

Chocobos (and mounts in general) is the feature you're probably thinking of that has to wait until you join a Grand Company.

dont get discouraged if the wait is longish u can switch class n do other things while waiting for the queue its advisable to save ur gear sets b4 hand tho so u can quick change back to the class u registered for the dungeon without having to reequop everything :3

    Thanks for the replies,

I don't really have anyone to play with, and am not in a free company. I'm on during peak hours and after. But I just decided to level up conjurer instead and just deal with it I guess.

You may want to check your world forum for free companies that are recruiting that are willing to help. I'd be happy to help you if we were on the same server.

I wouldn't recommend just to "deal with it". If you are not doing what you want to do, you may end up hating the game. There are other things you can try as mentioned on here. I would try those things first before going with dealing with it. Look for a FC that is new player friendly, shout out in the areas where the dungeons are for help, if only a tank or healer parties with you, you can use the DF to get in more quickly, or start a PF asking for help for a new player.

When you level a DPS you find long wait times for dungeons. Once you have the Low Level Duty Roulette, the more dungeons you have unlocked, the quicker the time waits are.

The first class I leveled was Gladiator so I did not have that problem, but when I leveled the BLM I started to craft during the wait times.

The Duty Roulette and the Guildhest Roulette are very useful to level up. You can do FATEs while you wait too and you will level up quicker (and earn GC seals too, you will need them to geat higher GC rank.)

The best would be have a tank friend that is leveling at the same time, that would be a big luck.

as i said b4 u can enter duty finder queue with 1 class n switch to another while waiting so its more or less killin 2 birds with 1 stone leveling conjurer while waitin for duty to pop :3 aslong as u switch back to the class u joined queue with b4 clicking commence :3

I'm sorry you're having a bad experience so far. As others have said, DPS queue times can be pretty bad, but they are rarely more than an hour. You can do other things while waiting in the queue, such as craft or level up a new class. I recommend, if you are interested in cutting down your queue times in the future, you queue for the dungeon as PUG and then switch to CNJ to level. When the queue pops, you can switch back to PUG and accept it. Note that every combat class except your highest one gets a +50% bonus to all experience points gained, so leveling up a second class isn't so bad.

To switch classes fast, you can set up gear sets for each class, and you can drag those gear sets to hotbars to create buttons you can click to switch classes.

If you were on my world, I'd help you out, but I see you're over on Zalera. You should be able to find people you enjoy gaming with there though - being in a Free Company, besides the obvious bonus of whatever buffs they are running, gives you the bonus of having people who can help you with the early dungeons. The game actually gives nice bonuses to people who are at the endgame and decide to run early-game content. That isn't the problem. The problem is, as others have said, about 75% of the playerbase are playing primarily DPS, 15% are playing primarily healers, and 10% are playing primarily tanks. It doesn't help that there are more DPS jobs than others. The expansion will help there, taking it from 6 DPS, 2 heals, 2 tanks to 7 DPS, 3 heals, 3 tanks.

I am in the same position as well... been waiting for ages and there is still no team to go. This is my first character and I am not in any free company (I think you need to be of certain level to be able to join one?) I am already level 17 and I was wondering if I can still do the quest if I exceeded the level? Like if I am at level 20 can I still go back to attempt the quest? Ideally I would rather not have it this way as I'd be way behind on the main storyline quest; it'd be better to be able to do Sastasha at my current level, and this is my first attempt doing Sastasha as well. I know others in the replies above have mentioned training another character while waiting but I don't want to be training a bunch of low levels while my main character is still stuck at level 17. T_T

P/S: Just to add on, do all my classes need to do the Sastasha quest? Or just the main one?
