To be honest, other than reading through the Knowledge Base article and that ZAM thread I posted earlier, I don't have many other ideas for you. I don't have a whole lot of experience in dealing with school networks.. and you are limited in the number of ways you can troubleshoot problems with that type of network. If you can get in touch with your IT people they might have some ideas, but I highly doubt it.

The problem is obviously something that is more or less specific to FFXIV.. but you should still run a long series of tests at pingtest.net to see how stable your connection is.

I was having trouble with this too when I was at school. Now that I'm at home though I'm having no trouble at all. Maybe it does have something to do with the schools + Server stuff? I'm not sure but I've been having issues with this since the patch in Jan?

We have a number of troubleshooting articles available on the SQUARE ENIX Support Center for connectivity issues. We’d like you to start by running through the troubleshooting and resolution steps provided in the below Knowledge Base article.

The Knowledge Base article can be found at this link:
What do I do if I’m experiencing connectivity issues?

K, i have no packet loss at the very least, and no matter what, as I've said again and again, EVERYTHING ELSE works just fine, including all online games and applications.

I've also tried what I can, considering that this is a University connection I'm using, as Grit said above and there's a limit to what I can do about the things given in the Knowledge base article.

So, Square Enix, what else can I do? I really want to play your game, but all this is making it very difficult for me.

IDK if SE can do anything about this, but I'm trying to figure out how could they help you if you can't meet the requirements to play the game due to your connection and don't have the rights to change things...
To be honest, I think that things won't change for you... Good luck anyway, sometimes the clouds wear off and you can see the sun

Wonderful >_> But if this is the kind of 'Support' I'm going to get, I'm definitely disappointed Square Enix. I want to play your game, I bought it and still play it for that very reason. But why can't you please take a look into it? I've already said that I can't do much with the Solutions given in the Knowledge Base article, so why don't I get some sort of response for this different or 'special' case?

I'd really appreciate it as a player if you could do something about it

    Kewldude,

Unfortunately if the connection you are using is blocking, dropping, or otherwise interfere with your connection for FINAL FANTASY XIV, there’s not much we can do to fix the problem from our end, since the problem lies in your internet connection.

We can only recommend that you contact the IT Department of your University to see if they are performing any sort of network security services that would block or interfere with your communications ports.

Well, I went home to experiment and guess what I didn't get disconnected even once throughout the six hours that i left it on during the night. This is wonderful news to me, as it means that I'm not doing something wrong.

Also, I noticed that the moment I started utorrent or DLing with it, it would immediately disconnect me from the server.

Fine, according to you, there might be some netowrk security up, which there is definitely of some sort, which is why, I'd appreciate it if you could help me some more by getting into the specifics.

I'd like to know if I need to open certain ports or ask my IT people to do something specific. Details will be great!

Also, for the same reason, I com back to something you still cannot explain, why can I log in to Aion and stay like that without being DCed whereas it isn't the same for FFXIV. Could it be perhaps be because someone has similarly opened the ports for it or something?

I'd really love for some more info on this, especially because I stay at University and am only at home during some weekends.

Oh well, I'm gonna make sure to lvl up as much as I can during my week of holidays ^_^

    Thanks in advance Nadeu! ~_^

If I read that correctly, you say you only get disconnected from the FFXIV server while you're downloading torrents?..

Does your internet get use by everyone on your University? If it does then there too much load then you get D/c from FFXIV because of packet lost. When i have a uttorrent up i try and put it on the lowest download speed and find the right spot so i can still download and not lag but never get d/c from ffxiv do to internet problems.

If you are torrenting while playing, no sympathies for you there - do your downloads while sleeping?

Regarding Aion, Aion servers are region based so tends to be closer to you. FF servers are all in Japan.
And were you on Aion during open beta? Connection was so bad it was unplayable -> Turned out an ISP (forgot which) was filtering out traffic to their servers on the east coast.
Unless the issue lies with SE's data center and the ISP they use, I highly doubt they can do anything for you.

That said, I also encounter these errors from time to time. Never seen it on FFXI but luckily for me, it is rare enough that it doesn't interfere with my gameplay. Usually happen during log-in but re-trying will get past the issue.
