Your response to my comment only makes sense if you strip my comment of context. >_>
The person I was replying to said that Au Ra were mammalian demi-beastmen instead of reptilian. Considering that these terms are coming from a poll conducted in the real world, I'm giving the devs the benefit of the doubt and assuming that when they say reptilian and mammalian, they're referring to real life reptiles and mammals. While, yes, a fantasy mammal can have scales (and the last few posts show that even real life mammals can), most people when they see scales are going to think reptiles before mammals.
A pangolin is a scaled mammal found throughout tropical regions of Asia and Africa.
You may now believe with all your heart that Au Ra are scaly, horned mammalian dragonhalfs.

Well, at least the males look good for the most part.
A bit disappointed with the females, though, as they're kind of on-par with what we've already got. (It's not that there's anything wrong with that aesthetic by itself, but just that we've already got that aesthetic covered with several current races, and it would have been nicer to get an alternative to it.)
I don't think it's just that they're smaller (though that does emphasize it). It's that they have this cutesy girly petite look while the males look much more adult and commanding, even fierce. If you take the images of both and re-size them so they're the same height, they still don't look like a good match. We already have that cutesy girly petite look available with Miqo'te women. (Actually, the Au Ra women look sort of like a cross half-way between a Miqo'te and an Elezen.) A lot of people were hoping for a more fierce bestial option with the new race, and one gender got it while the other didn't.
Personally, I'd be fine with the dramatic height difference, if only the females got as fierce and bestial of a look as the males have. I suspect that may be the case with a lot of the people who were complaining about the dimorphism as looking sexist.
So, even with a sixth race being added, Roegadyn will remain the only option for an adult feminine look. All the rest are going for cute and girly. (It's especially annoying since both of the races with some bestial elements went for the same cute and girly option. Roegadyn women are attractive, but apart from a few of the skin-tone options, they're completely human, so a bit boring for a fantasy game.)
So I have been thinking of trying a Miqo'te, and one of the things I noticed is how great earrings look on them (never covered by hair!). And then it occurred to me . . . how will earrings show up on the Au Ra?On their horns? Not at all? Or do they have ears that I am just not seeing?
This is totally a serious and important issue, y'know.![]()
If I level Dragoon and race-change to Au Ra, does this mean I'm a Drag On Dragoon? [/pun]
Hail to the Sultana!
I think they have ears, but its just hard to see. I wonder why the horns aren't on the top of their heads ala miqote/ most humanoid races with horns?
You'd think it'll easier for them since they already have hairstyles/ some gear with miqote ears in minds. I can't really imagine how certain headgear will look as a result of that downward forward facing horn they have
I agree with Niwashi. The females just look like the other females cute and super girly. There is nothing wrong with that but it would be nice to have more verity. One of the main reasons I choose to go Roe was because they were not the standard tiny female character. Not to mention she looks mean with an axe. I too was hoping for a fierce looking female. They are kind of boring compared to the male counterparts.
I agree! Miqote, Lalafell, and Midlander females are just overly "girly" and innocent looking. I mean the midlander run is cringe worthy. Elezen, Roe, and Highlanders actually look like they belong on the battlefield. I'm disappointed with this new race.I agree with Niwashi. Eh, I'll hold judgment until I see them with their war-face on. Even Cat and Mid-girls have decent facial variations.
Of course, we haven't seen enough of them yet, but what we have so far seems to be fairly vanilla for SE. Not a complaint, my main'll be swapping to Aura male as soon as possible.
