Well considering these are pre-ARR polls, we got pet class with summoner, ninja/thf, and original job. And we also got a mixed race / demi-beastman though something nobody expected. Needed some job to fill the tank requirement and I guess DRK was the easy choice.
But Summoner sucks at the pet-commanding roleI never said I wanted you to do anything, let alone did I say I wanted to prove anything to you or anyone else.My point was that no race that they could've added would be original enough to satiate most people's palettes.
I meant redundant in terms of jobs we already have in 14, not across games or whatever? SMN already fills the role of pet-commanding DPS. We don't need another any time soon.
Was really hoping to see chemist as the healer/gun job. Astrologian is so random. Machinist looks alright though, I hope it relies a lot on the bots.
Definitely not that excited about the new race, the male Au Ra look weird. If they wanted a "draconian" race they could have copied a bit off the Aman in TERA, which actually looks the part (Au Ra females look like cuter Hyur females with a few scales and a tail).
I think they should have just went with the fans on this one: SAM - tank, Chemist - healer, Musketeer - DD

The more I look at them the more I get bothered by the random/inconsistent pattern of their scales which kinda look like scabs and now I feel itchy o____o

I never wanted a Viera-like race. I really don't like "fan service" races at all. Besides, we already got one (Miqote). I have to say I'm a bit disappointed that the new race was not fully reptilian. Instead we got a Highlander/Elezen with horns and a tail. Much like Miqote are just midlanders with cat ears and tails. I really wish they would make actually beast-like races to play instead of keeping everything "beautiful".

Skyrim is the one you want to play if you want a fully reptilian race.I never wanted a Viera-like race. I really don't like "fan service" races at all. Besides, we already got one (Miqote). I cannot dissuade you from your opinion OP but let me give you my perspective. First off as long Final Fantasy player I am beyond happy with Machinist being the new gun class. The reason being was Final Fantasy Tactics on the playstation was my first time playing any of the games. A friend of mine gifted it to me for my birthday as he noticed I liked to play chess and he himself owned the game. Fast forward I get Mustadio (the Machinist) and later on I get to the special spell guns. He was always on my team for his ability to keep trash in check. When it was teased that we were getting a gun job on here I secretly hoped it would be Machinist or even Engineer. It would fit with the lore of the game as well as lore of Ishgard. They have Engineers. I was not naïve enough to bet the farm on it. Second guess was Musketeer honestly and I would have been happy with that too. But when they showed Machinist last night it was almost like Christmas came early for me just that the present would be a little late getting here.
To top it off I had to step away from the computer to feed the family and when I got back my FC mates told me about the new race. One of my friends told me some of the details and described some of the looks based on what they had seen. I know it was announced before Machinist, still, I found out after the fact. I have been waiting for a draconian like race as I main Dragoon and while I know that's cheesy I have a sort of obsession with dragons. Got a $400 tattoo on my right forearm to prove the point lol. So Au Ra was a nice surprise for me as well. I really didn't think we would get a draconian race on here.
Now, I grant you there are some things that should be a given. We do need a new caster dps. What it would be or what I would suggest I cannot say at this moment. They do listen, they do read our stuff, but look at it like this; while I am certain Yoshida wants to fulfill the requests and desires of everyone that plays he also has to make it fit somewhere. He had the lore, the want of a new ranged class that used guns, so he made Machinist. Astrologian was just as easy but to be honest I figured it would be a dps or CC. I think its refreshing though I don't play healer jobs, can't get the knack of it.
TL;DR While it may not be what you wished, take it in stride. Who knows, next expansion you may get what you're after and more![]()

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.
The race looks amazing, the jobs look amazing. Nothing to complain about.

Hmm... noone asked for Dark Knight... you must be new, people have had Dark Knight at the top of their Job wishlists for as long as ARR's been running (right alongside Red Mage and Musketeer). Musketeer... sorry, Machinist, has been wanted since 1.0, though it's pretty clear Machinist isn't going to be the Job we've been waiting for if Heavensward is going the Advanced Jobs route (i.e. based off the Jobs instead of the classes). The Viera as a race was only listed to give an example. Clearly they didn't go with it, but still delivered on the requested option with a partially draconic race. The only curve ball in the lot is Astrologian. I mean, really, who saw that coming?! It's like the ultimate expression of Yugioh in Final Fantasy! Or Magic the Gathering. Mostly Yugioh. I can see the macros now..., "I reveal my trap card! Esuna!", "Believe in the Heart of the Cards! Regen!"...
