The issue is having to learn the scripted fight. It becomes worse when you know 40% of the fight and get paired with people that know 75% or 80%. I made the comment to some friends that watching the guides is like cramming for a final exam. Yes you'll meet some people that have the patience to help you catch up but still daunting to those who are new to the event. I think a movement buff would help learners without burdening those know the fight.

Let's be honest here, echo is added to content later on and most of that content is people either catching up or farming so adding to that is a positive to me.

That's not how high ping works Myrhn, at least not all the time. This method works well if your ping is consistent (say 500+ms all the time). This means that if you start moving a half second early for all the mechanics, you'll dodge everything. If you have inconsistent ping, this doesn't work. For example, let's say the first set of plumes comes up and you're pinging 600ms at that time. You can preempt this by moving 600ms before plumes appear in the rotation to compensate it, thus to everyone else in the party you look like you're moving at the same time as the rest of the group. This type of issue usually stems from distance. The farther you are from the host server, the longer the trip packets have to take to get there and back, giving a very consistent form of latency. However someone with inconsistent ping would not know how bad it is at any point in the fight. The next set of plumes could pop up at a moment when you're only pinging 40ms. You move early to compensate for your previous spike, but now you're dropping a plume where people need to run and could end up killing a few people because of it. You didn't know though because your latency fluctuates randomly throughout the fight.

This type of lag is actually the most common form in all online gaming (not just FFXIV). There will be moments of flawless perfection followed by moments of sheer bullshit followed by flawless reaction all within a 1-2 minute timeframe. A very large portion of the playerbase has to deal with this, a portion much larger than the "I can play perfectly" and the "I can always move early to compensate" camps. The reason for this is due to the sub-standard, outdated network infrastructure of North America. This is also the largest portion of the EN population for pretty much all online games, so it behooves game companies to find ways to deal with these problems as best they can. A faster base movement speed for characters with echo would go a long way for helping to deal with these types of problems, especially when the majority if your playerbase is being routed through the shitty level 3 nodes between Chicago and Montreal to play this game (seriously, 4.69.141.1 is notorious for dropping packets. I get anywhere from a 6-15% loss on weekends because of it).

How about you just keep practicing more. Almost nothing one-shots anymore with so much HP from echo and new gear.

Or just play ninja, it has a base movement speed increase!

Why not just make echo stack up to 10 and make the fight auto-win if you reach that level?

Why not just play offline games if ping is an issue?

Not really. If you've actually memorized the fight, you can pre-move. A friend of mine who was our static tank for a long time, had bad internet, and would frequently have to guess when to move, and played at a considerably higher level that folks you are suggesting this change for.

Also, a big no thanks to this suggestion. Rather than Echo, there should just be story mode versions of fights so people who have no interest in learning the fight can experience X story. If you can't even clear fights when wildly overgeared, you really need Echo too? If you can't beat it while overgeared and also with Echo, you think movement speed is gonna help? May as well just give the boss 1 hp.

Echo is stupid, it won't help players develop any sort of actual skill

When you propose a topic and disallow the main argument against it you're not going to have a productive conversation.

Lol, give them the buff so they can realize that if their connection or processing rates are bad, nothing will help them except maybe paying more for better internet and upgrading to an actual gaming machine. I don't want to play the well off card at all. However, I built my machine, spent the time to select it piece by piece and put it together myself just for gaming. It didn't cost me 3000 dollars, not 2000, perhaps a grand at most, and it's a beast. Furthermore, I only use the internet, so instead of throwing money away on 7k channels and complaining that there's nothing to watch, I put that money towards faster internet speeds. If someone's going to complain that content is too difficult and there should be special considerations made to cater to them, then maybe they should take a moment to see what special considerations they can make to make playing better themselves.

Edit: Bringing up server issues is a moot counter point here too, as those can have an effect on anyone at any time, and do not reflect one individual's bad connection.
