FFXI is still active and playable. Why not just play it instead of trying to turn this game into it?

People mention many features from FFXI because they were good features (something FFXIV lacks in). I'm sure some people do want a FFXI-2, but I think most people just list features that were pretty much expected to be in FFXIV. Features that worked well, basic features at that.I have heard people wanting pretty much FFXI-2 one post listed alot from ffxi and the replies were "they made that game, its called FFXI" lol.
But some features wouldnt be too bad, like the party flag, just copy the code and adapt it to crystal tools, not sure how differant the engines are though
If this was SE's first MMO, I'd be way more forgiving, but for a game to be succeeding an 8 year old game, it really just doesn't have any excuses for missing many basic features. Especially for it have been in development so long. Granted, I feel the game is finally going in the right direction, and I truly hope it will be a solid game when it comes out on the ps3. I also hope the ps3 brings life back into this game.
Well at what point is FF11-2 is or is not its components. We can do with any of both given the FF14 is...not what it should be.
FF14 really should have been FF11-2 not in being FF11, but having all the FF11 stuff already there and not have to reinvent them.
If FF14 had all the complete stuff of FF11, and then expand on those, I would be happy. Sure we can rethink dungeons into instance raids, and the archaic UI, and the patchy-draconan-party requirements.
But people that complain that FF14 needs time to grow it's own wings is exactly that...no one expected FF14 needed to grow its own wings. It's a sequel, not a no-name start up.
Ya that pretty much sums it up.
Using multiple weapons simultaneously on 1 job and seeing .1 or .3 skill increments while engaged in my activity, instead of "You gained 200 skill points" at the end.
Ok here are some minor once in no particular order:
- A REAL LFP SYSTEM (please).
- A REAL PLAYER/AREA SEARCH SYSTEM (pretty please)
- No more teleportation to ether camps for party members who have not visited the location earlier.
- Skirr up's.
- Mog house (don't wanna call it Mog house for some reason? ok fine call it something else then).
- Rename SP to XP.
- XP chains (and of all the positions on this list... this one MIGHT actually happen! whoot!)
- Draw from the overall experience of developing XI (no, not copy it).
- A sense of genuine exploration and achievement.
Thx.
In all honesty, I wouldn't mind FFXIV a lot more like FFXI. People tend to tell people, why would you want this game to be FFXI when there is already "FFXI". For me its quite simple really, theres too much Abyssea and Astral Burns in my FFXI. That was the worst load of horse crap that could happen to FFXI.

A-freaking-men.
When they said they were increasing the level cap to 99, I thought, "Oh awesome that adds 24 more levels for them to fill with awesome storylines and other great content... epic stuff like CoP or Zilart..."
Instead we got 'Abyssea', which is basically "yeah, here's some re-skinned zones with a bunch of new mobs in them and an afterthought of an excuse for a story... Go grind for up to another 24 levels".
They were showing signs of "losing touch" with what made XI great with things in Aht Urghan, and moreso with WoTG... But they seriously outdid themselves in jumping the shark with Abyssea.
What took them ~7 years to build into an amazing game, they managed to all but completely undermine and destroy in less than 2.
I find it ironic that they maintained the healthiest and most loyal playerbase for the years they stuck to their guns. Yet, despite all the "casual friendly", speed-leveling content they're adding (which so many claimed is all that kept them from playing, and from the game getting more popular), they're losing existing/long-time players, and it doesn't seem those people are being replaced with new ones.
Amazing.
Astral Burns... well.. that was something players figured out. It was still lame, but that wasn't entirely on SE (though, unless they have since, they never bothered to 'fix' it).

* Mail / delivery system.
* Proper LS management options, such as kick, promote (with promotion names)
* Player titles.
* Option to sign crafted gear / weapons etc.
* Personal / LS housing
* Some kind of system to enchant / engrave gear/weapons. (hopefully materia crafting will be like this)
* Really...Really....Hard to get gear/weapons, possible "Dynamis" upgradeable gear / weapons. (Something to work hard to get / upgrade)
* Gardening ; ;
* Random Treasure Chest spawns in caves / certain areas etc.
