Im sure they are taking an acquired funds approach. The more items bought through the cash shop they will release more stuff at a higher frequency. And nothing in the shop boosts your character stats or chances of winning an encounter. It's all vanity.

The only thing "i want" are more square-enix vanity, like costumes, hairstyles, weapons and potential mounts from iconic characters from other square-enix franchises and final fantasy. Advent Children motorcycles anyone? Sephiroth's ridiculously long hair or even that ridiculously long coat how about that ridiculously long sword?
Every dollar you spend in the cash shop is just going to more cash shop. Not the game.

To get this all started SE had to take normal sub money and pay a dev to make some cash shop items to begin with. So we all somehow paid for this cash shop even if we did or did not want it. Doesn't matter but once that was set in motion it appears it will only get worse. All i see now is more and more cash shop items and I agree with the players who are saying that content is everything to this game and not just the latest coil or ilvl gear you go and buy with tomes. Final fantasy games are not played by their gear alone. They invoke a full immersion experience unlike any other game.
