The solution to lack of tank has always been, YOU become the tank. If everyone did this there wouldn't be a lack of tanks anymore.
Since nobody does this, I'm guessing the lack of tanks problem can't be solved by adding more tank jobs.

The OP has a point.
Give tanking abilities to all melee classes might help lower the barriers to entry for tanking.
Players who want to try out tanking can just ask groups they are in to let them tank a bit - the designated tank will just swap to DPS stance.
Right now to be a tank is quite a commitment. When you level a tank, that's all you can be.
Players also expect you to know what you are doing the moment you step into a dungeon.
It's literally tank or don't tank; there is no try.
Most players chose "don't tank".

Deviating from Bishop's idea, I know the thing that got me into healing was the fact that as an Arcanist, after level 30, I had a healer that would always be levelled for me to practice with. I know they stated that they have no intention of Making a split class again, but I did like when I read someones idea of spinning off Lancer into some sort of Tank, since they have a few skills that would serve a tank well, such as a pull from javelin. Course, While it's more able to be cross role than some classes, a pessimist could say that's like being the parts of Pompeii that weren't quite as ravaged by the volcano (too soon?) It'd need some serious work, especially if it were to be usable in pre 30 dungeons. Emnity boosts, better low level aoe (probably from flash) etc.

This just says it all, another of your hate post, you starting to see ffxi players everywhere...
Now more on topic, after playing ninja for some time, i noticed i can just faceroll content by just imputing a rotation and without suffering any stress, so i stopped tanking. But!, the way PLD and WAR works here made me not wanting to tank, even if i give Barboron a reason to attack me with this, i loved tanking in ffxi as PLD because it was an hybrid of sword & shield warrior and white mage, while PLD here works like any other melee, it feels too simple and boring. I see DRK interesting, and i may make it my main, but if it works just like another damage mitigating melee, i'll keep playing ninja until something more interesting gets added.
So i'm in part with the OP, because he has a point, tanking in this game is not hard, but stressing, and the 2 tanks we have right now are more or lees the same, damage mitigating melees, in my case, some variety would make me play a tank again.

A mage tank would solve nothing, its isn't the class mechanics most people are interested in. Its the archetype's playstyle, most players just aren't interested in tanking.
The only way it would change is if the next tanking class did as much dps as a mnk, while being able to tank like a pld. Then a ton of players would reroll to play it.
Why don't we actually let them add a new tank first before people start jumping to conclusions.

idk, but he seems more experienced with F2Ps, MMO player more than ffxi player alone... i haven't seen him asking for DRK DPS, in fact i have seen very little ppl asking for it to be a DPS, if you ask me this is a legit thread, not a dps DRK rant.

Not suggesting it is a DRK DPS thread, just merely pointing out that it appears OP has low expectations for DRK as a tank which leads me to assume he would have assumed it to be a DPS, like it was used in FFXI. Anyone would assumed DRK to be a DPS tend to have one common factor...they played FFXI.

Or just ff, it has always been a job that sacrificed HP to increase it's damage, i think the surprise was general, in my case, as ffxi player and more important, as final fantasy player, i'm curious to see how it works, it may attract more players to the role if it's different enough. Not suggesting it is a DRK DPS thread, just merely pointing out that it appears OP has low expectations for DRK as a tank which leads me to assume he would have assumed it to be a DPS, like it was used in FFXI. It doesn't matter if the OP expected DKR to be dps or not, he has a point, variety in tank jobs might help with queues.
