Error starting up. "Final Fantasy has stopped working.."

Hey all,

So I recently applied Patch 2.4 today and now I cannot even boot up Final Fantasy at the start screen since it keeps giving me the "Final Fantasy has stopped working and will shut down. If this problem persists.." yaddi-yadda. I am running Windows 8.1 and can provide any other information. The game was running smooth as butter up until this most recent patch came up, so I do not know what it wrong.

And yes, I have tried a re-install.

Does the crash occur on the launcher, or after you've logged in and clicked play?

It starts after I have logged in with my info and I press play. The screen comes up with the usual blackness before it would go into the intro cut scene before the start menu. However, it just stays at that black screen for a bit and then at the top of the window it says "Final Fantasy XXIV (Not Responding)" before giving me the "Windows is checking for a solution.." bit and then forcing me to quit the program because it just won't work. I find it odd since the game was working fine before the patch and I haven't done anything to my computer as far as overclocking so I don't know what's wrong.

is it a N or KN version of windows 8.1

as it sounds like the crash is occuring where the intro should play, which is a WMV video iirc,

You would be correct to say that the crash occurs just before the intro video. And I do not know how to check to see if it is. My apologies, I am somewhat of a beginner with computers. I can follow directions, but I just can't make connections with thoughts and such.

Apparently, I do not have either version of that when I checked into "Properties" and did the system properties.

Have you installed any codec packs?

Just spitballing...may not lead anywhere, but should rule it out just in case. Do you have a dedicated ATI or nVIDIA graphics card? If so, double check that things are configured to run the game on it. May be having a problem with the management between the Intel 4600 on the CPU and the dedicated card.
