Hopefully the other two tanks can borrow skills from DRK.

This is what we know for 3.0: 3 tanks, 3 healers (3rd healer not known yet), 6 dps (3 melee).
We have no knowledge about how many jobs they will at in total for 3.0's release. My guess is they will either add a 3rd caster dps, a physical ranged dps (BRD is the only phys ranged atm) or a tank. If SAM would be a dps, it would be melee. I can't see how they could make it ranged. This would mean 4 melee which breaks the balance.
Adding a 4th tank is not balance breaking since tanks are so underplayed. So yes, I still think SAM will be a tank if they want it for 3.0's release. Together with another healer and 2 ranged dps the balance would be perfect: 4 tanks, 3 healers, 3 melee, 2 phys ranged dps, 3 casters!

Want them to make it like they did in wow. Blood DK was the tank, Frost DK was dps ect. Same class with a few different abilities.
I just don't ever see a heavily armored unit not being a tank in FFXIV. Fortunately, I do not think that Samurai were very heavily armored. So I believe there is a strong possibility that, if implemented, will be a damage class.
But I've just always felt like the tank role is just so weird. It's a glorified DPS (that does terrible, terrible damage) for all that it does. Any time a DPS can take damage intended for a tank, they just become obsolete. It's a design that I don't really like, because tanks are just like this cupcake holder class that don't really contribute anything to a group.
Well, you know, besides making sure their other party members aren't being mauled to death.

samurai will probably wear mail, then good chance for them to be a dps. other point no interest to add 2 tank at the same time. the best idea is to release 2 dps, 1 tank and 1 healer.
AGT, DRK, RDM, & SAM calling it!
Agent (heal)
Dark Knight (tank)
Red Mage (dps)
Samurai (dps)

I really want to see Red Mages. But I think for them to work in this game they'll have to give up a little on the idea that they're a caster. The way I see RDM in FFXIV is more like a spellsword channeller.
They'd have a series of elementally charged melee attacks that, when stacked in a particular order, caused an elemental discharge (Much like a FFXI Skillchain), which the RDM would then use an additional elemental blast to deal additional damage. It's kind of like a cross between the Skillchains of FFXI and the Mudra system for Ninja.
To reflect their ability with healing magic, as well, they'd get some group-wide cooldowns, such as a group GCD/Auto Attack reduction (Haste) or a group-wide, short timer Regen or Poisona (Removes poison from everyone in the group).
All this while rockin' a small sword (Rapier or Cutlass) and a wide-brimmed cap-and-feather.
Erhm, that being said, I think it'd fit in really well with the expansion. :P Also I agree with Toodles on his class predictions.

Feel like I've seen this thread before....
I'm super happy with DK tanks, but I'm not everyone.
