Anyone Pro cash shop?

Vanity cash shop doesn't bother me one bit. I'd much rather buy my mounts/minions rather than spend my monthly sub farming old content endlessly just for a chance it might drop. It would free up time for me to do things I actually enjoy about the game.

Considering what a pain in the butt they already make certain vanity items to obtain in the game, I'm all for a cash shop. However, maybe they should also make cash shop items available to obtain in-game through other means so people aren't forced to pay extra.

As for me? Take my money. /throw

I actually dislike the idea of everything in the cash shop being obtainable in game normally. Then it just means the cash shop is only for the type of person that would rather spend money than play the game. I would rather be able to get unique items from it.

I am, I've bought things from cash shops in several different games. From vanity items, to booster packs in the case of the EQ virtual card game, to the games particular currency making the most of my past purchases. Something I hope SE plans to make available for sale on its cash shop. The one benefit I've seen in games where the games developer is selling its own currency is pretty much zero RMT activity in the games. Who's going to buy from RMT when its safer and no risk buying from the games company? The RMT can't make a profit so they scoot out.

As long as they keep it vanity, it's ok. Like, if it's a item you can get at a limited time quest (like a seasonal) and they wait some time to bring it back, I don't care. Even some unique things would be ok.
There are some things that need to be kept special, imo, like things from physical stuff (either buying a thing or physicly being somewhere to obtain), or what have you. If it's a drop, leave that out, go do the content. We've had Fantasias on sale for how long now, and *now* we're getting up in arms over this? There's been a cash shop the entire time guys, and if you've made it this long without buying something, then honestly, this will never affect you. Get mad when they start selling things that affect gameplay, not clothes.

I will concide though, that Selpnir should have been a drop for Odin. :l

I have been reading posts on this topic since it was announced at the Fanfest and I keep seeing people taking such extremes its almost comedic. This will just be vanity items such as previous holiday even costumes, maybe bardings, minions and a mount here and there. I can understand where they are coming from to a point but I do not think we will every have to worry about paying for actual content or gear that has actual stats on it or weapons that just isn't going to happen. I know some people consider vanity as a very real part of end game progression but the thing about vanity items is that they are absolutely not needed to fully enjoy the game. We will never get items just as an example that are on par or better then Coil loot or be able to buy mounts that grant faster movement speed over other mounts its just not going to happen.


As much as people dislike WoW or don't care either way about it, they do have a cash shop and for a game that is 10 years old and still has over 7 million subs they must be doing something right. Yes I know just because WoW does it doesn't mean FFXIV does need to do it. Though the way I see it the MMO landscape in general is changing for better or worse but that is another topic on its own. As for some worrying about development being taken away from the main game I would not worry about such a thing from what I took from what SE said the cash shop team will be separate from the other development teams. So I do believe the profits will go back into FFXIV and make the game better.

I am in the middle of the road on this. I will give an example; IF they include a minion into certain item that cost $40 and the minion is on cash shop for $5. You have absolutely no interest into then physical item but really want the minion, what would u do? The artbook is the case, not everyone would want the art book but would really want the enterprise minion, in this case they can either buy the code off someone or get the artbook themselves. Which made more sense? Don't get me wrong, I too am a bit upset on the mount is only cash shop only but it is not the end of the world. People can rock their opdin mount while I am riding my nightmare and Ramuh mount.

I personally don't care for it and finding it interesting that people can't simply ignore it. No one has a gun to your head and is screaming at you to buy things from the cash shop. Yet everyone is overreacting as if they're being forced against their own will here. Why can't people simply ignore it? That is beyond me. If it doesn't do well, they will more than likely remove it. So just don't buy from it if you don't like it and buy from it if you do. It's just that simple.

Well I would just get it off the store if I want just the digital item. Though for the art book I would snatch that up because your really paying for the book and the minion is an added bonus.

Me personally and this would be one of the reasons why I would support having both the minion come with the physical item and having the minion on sale on the cash shop. Limited supplies and all on physical items, limited print runs, etc. If someone really wants the minion and could care less about the physical item? Great then it can be bought on the cash shop for 5$. Its a good system and insures better to the people who want the physical item but could care less about the minion or want to have both can have a better chance of buying it before copies sell out to those who may have wanted just the minion and the art book or cd sit forgotten and un-enjoyed somewhere on a shelf.
