But I think people are overreacting about the shop.
If it's only esthetics then there is no problem.

That would be somewhat fine if it only boosted your level, and even then it's a clear advantage over newly created characters though it would be closer to pay 2 avoid grind. Alas, the level boost also includes starter 483 Item level spec-appropriate gear, set of bags, 150 Gold (!), all classic zones explored on the map, riding skills up to Artisan (up to 280% flying speed) (!) and all regional riding skills up to Pandaria (Cold Weather Flying, Flight Master's License, etc.). So therefore yes, it is P2W.

150g is nothing, you can make that daily doing a handful of quests in just a half hour-hour of time. everyone has all those riding skills unlocked virtually when they become available anyways, so again, not a big deal, mountains out of molehills. 483 ilvl gear is pretty crappy, as well and is easily beaten out in a matter of minutes on timeless isle. The only thing the boost gives you is hours of time saved to get something you'll have anyways. They don't block people from reaching level 90 without, in fact, they constantly make it EASIER to grind out those levels by reducing the amount of EXP needed to level up.

I remember in XI when you'd just be able to obtain the previous years events during the current event.

Well once my sub is up i wont re-sub ill vote with my wallet. Cash shops is a bad idea and it will lead to other things not just mounts/vanity etc. SE or the dev's have already lied starting back in 1.0 and continue to do so currently, or shall we say, they say one thing but do a complete turn around.

"We don't all know" anything. Do you have a crystal ball? Just because YOU believe it will lead down some treacherous road, does not make it fact. I don't believe it's a horrible thing. They are a business. Buy their product or do not buy it, in the end, that's all it comes down to.

In WoW they started with vanity items. Years later they're selling character boosters.

Since WoW seems to be the defacto trend setter, I see it as only a matter of time.
