:3 I use Photoshop CS3 CS6 (Forgot I'm using CS6 now). Zoom right in, trace with polygonal lasso and cut/paste onto a transparent background.

Updated the main post with Kaelah's close-up shot guide! And to answer a few other questions:

Hairstyle can change freely as you wish, as can make-up. But no Fantasia-ing mid-contest! Only what you can change through the Aesthetician.

Also, server is utterly irrelevant! Screenshots are all that's used, so I don't care at all where you're from. Come one, come all!
