But seriously, I'm betting on a 10-level cap increase across the board. Which may or may not end up causing a lot of hardcore endgame crafters/gatherers to be very upset as their months of work to get Supra tools gets completely nullified.

I imagine it'll be a 10 level bump to 60, but who knows, they could pull a FFXI and run all the way to 75, but I doubt it.

For the ilvl system, I think they've said that you should think of it separate from class/ job level entirely and that it's just another attribute of equipment tied to the required level. Basically level 50 gear with an ilvl of 100 may be weaker than level 53 gear with an ilvl of 53 (maybe it won't be, but basically don't expect lvl 55 vendor gear to be the same as ilvl 55 gear). Basically I think they'll make it so ilvl is only meaningful when you know the required level as well so lvl50/ilvl130 <= lvl60/ilvl60 in terms of stats, except I expect defense to scale up better with required level.

I'm at least hoping this is the case, otherwise crap gear at 60 is already gonna be ilvl 150 or higher and by 4.0 we'll be at ilvl 230+

    EDIT:

I'd actually expect that the expansion will usher in a quest to upgrade your Supra (or whatever it is at that point) yet again to be level appropriate. Quite possibly the same for relic weapons too.

Lol! I imagine they'd wipe their tears away with all the Gil they've earned. On a serious note though, it doesn't take that long to get supras, especially if you desynth your own fc3/mc...but eh, I tend to sell them since gil is nicer to have than a minimal upgrade. That's just me, though. Agree with you on the 10 levels

Uh well most pre-50 content has no real item level requirement. So this will probably continue for the dungeons of the expansion pack.

Fun fact: As a fisher, my Supra tool took me about an hour to get the fishable materials for. It's the ~3 million gil cost for the demimateria that is a kick in the nuts (And that's after the 2.38 easy Fieldcraft IIIs ; prior to that it would've easily cost me 6-7 mil).

But stuff getting obsoleted is pretty common for Crafters/Gatherers. I suspect it'll all still be useful even after a level cap increase - most progression has been in a "You need all this to score your next upgrades anyway" system, so we'll still likely have a significant head start; it'll just be easier for the people coming later to play catch up.

I am guessing like majority of mmorpgs who received a expansion, its probaly going to be either 5 levels or 10 levels. The first expansion tend to have 10 levels.

From my understanding the raising of the level cap is to facilitate the introduction of new job abilities. The levl cap will likely rise, imo, by the amount needed for the number of abilities, based on the ability distribution we already have (a new class ability every 4 levels, and a new job ability every 5 levels). Level 55 would give us 2 new abilities, level 60 would give use 4 new abilities, but level 70 could be 9 new abilities. Assuming things proceed like existing content.

I've only heard them mention that one new skill was coming per class, that would suggest a cap raise of 5lvls. I hope its more though... the expansion is supposed to have as much content as 2.0 and it'll be hard to fit all that in with just 5 levels.

People expect the physical levels to go, but Yoshi-P probably means Item level cap will go up.
