Why does everything have to be nerfed?
Because this game is an ONLINE game where contents constantly change.
If you keep the contents the way they are FOREVER you risk to lose new players on the first place.
A new player could never catch the others if the conditions remain essentially the same.
It's the way ALL the MMORPGs are done: they keep adapting their contents so that the oldest ones (which become outdated) could be easier to attain.
In this way you can create an experience which is more or less the same for everyone, hence, FAIR.
Old players made more efforts to obtain something, but they had plenty of time to do so.
New players could never have that time, but they can reach those goals easly, so they can play with old players within a reasonable amount of time.

Nerfing the old contents is a natural process of EVERY MMORPGs to keep the latters alive.
You should actually be happy instead of complaining.

And, BTW, we are not actually talking about nerfing in this case.
We are talking about FIXING something that is broken which doesn't necessarly mean "make things easier".

At least implement that suggestion that's floated around where you're guaranteed the Atma after some-odd 75 FATE's in each region, so that it never takes more than 900 FATE's to accomplish.

I think that's a fair compromise if you're not going to simply up the drop rate... in fact, I think there's a better design in general.

All those naysayers, I really don't think it's too much to ask honestly... the "deal with it" response or the "it only took me 5 hours" response, c'mon look outside yourself a little bit & support your community of players.

I think you're right. While it didn't take me too painfully long to get lucky and get my Atmas, others haven't had much luck. The rate drop should be increased or Atma drops after a certain number of FATE has been reached per map area. I would hope that this will happen in 2.4 patch.

I also think it's about time they eased up on the Atma grind ( 4/12 here ). To me, it feels like its such a kick in the teeth after doing all the primal hard modes to actually obtain the relic to begin with. With the rng dependency regarding drop rates you might as ask yourself how long is a piece of string. Is it any wonder that so many are opting to go the fast route and grab unidentified tome/sands of time for a item level 110 (myself included). I don't mind a grind and i certainly don't want it handed to me. It just needs a progression part added so at least the player knows they'll actually get a atma drop instead of leaving it in the hands of the rng gods

This is a game you're supposed to enjoy getting content done, not just rush it using a single finger and no brain.
To me it feels like "i wanna do everything but dont wanna work and spend time on it, so SE nerf please" just with the excuse to 'catch up'.
There isnt any urge to complete the game, nor it is a race to actually clear everything. It could be your goal, its not the case of everyone.
This is also the main reason why people get bored so easily nowadays, nothing to do cause everything that has been built is nerfed, and the actual content is on a timelock/single loot per week.
To finish, its not a rule for player to catch up 'old player', it could be the said old players that play with new players aswell.

what is wrong with adding some RNG into a RPG? Can you accept a differing view that some people like rng or do you only insist that it is objectively bad?
You are absolutely free to love this RNG system, but you should realize you are a minority in this game.
All the other steps have options.
Look at the Animus+ quest: you can get Alexandrites either by doing dailies or by doing FATEs, in the same way you "farm" Atmas.
You are free to choose whatever method you like.
    So my questions are:

    1) Did you collect your Alexandrites via FATEs, right? If you are coherent, you should have chosen this method, otherwise your words don't correspond to your actual way to play.
    2) What's wrong in adding an option for Atma step too? Such as... I don't know, getting Atmas via elite marks or... whatever?
This way, masochist gamblers could keep farming FATEs whereas all the other players would be free to farm Atmas with the other method.

All the most popular an played MMORPGs use the system I indicated in my previous post.
Even the most "old-style" MMORPGs tend to nerf older contents one day or another.
Ragnarok Online users, for example, increased a lot when the "renewal patch" (essentially a nerf patch) was introduced in the European server.
I remember the day before the maintenance: about 1000 players connected. The day after the "renewal patch" that number was doubled.
    It's not about rushing.
It's about being able to catch old players and to be able to play with everyone on the same conditions.

A Moon on the water, a wind in the trees, all and none belong to me.
And so I must wander, down a road e'er long, over mountains, through valleys, singing these bard songs.

There is obviously a higher chance of completing an Atma set over winning the lottery, but the concept of "chance" itself include the possibility of the "never getting it" anyway.

You can certainly draw an average of the number of FATE to complete in order to obtain a full Atma set, but an "average" include the existance of two "sides" with extreme cases. Regarding low drop rate chances, the extremes cannot be ignored.

This is a typical "average" curve which apply to Atma drops. It represents the number of FATEs people did to receive their Atma set:

There is the yellow "average" part in the middle, but there are also two blue "extreme" sides where some people either had their Atma quickly or very quickly, and, on the other end, people who took a long or very long time to get their Atmas.

What we want is the removal of the blue parts in order to keep some kind of control over the progression, without removing RNG altogether.
... or at least the "unlucky" blue part.

People here seem to be so blinded by their sense of entitlement that they completely neglect that Relic is not content that was made for them. They also neglect that Atma being tied to FATEs was intentionally done to help older players help new players with leveling by having more people roaming the world doing FATEs.

It's sad because these people crying for SE to nerf it are trying to imply that people in favor of the current system are being "selfish" or whatever but totally ignore how self-absorbed their own motives are.
