I agree the surveys should return, I read the live letter with the reasons not too, because the forum is very active nowadays, doesn't cut it though since the topics that get the most reaction you don't even reply to like hunts prime example.
A game is only as successful as it's player base, lose the player base, lose the game, don't make the same mistakes twice

She is saying that they are making alt characters and buying homes with each of them. For example i created characters Bob, Joe, Dave. They would each buy a house, since SE didn't limit the houses one account can buy. This makes it even harder for other people to buy houses since it is so limited. What SE should have done was limited housing to 1 house per server, but allowed all characters from same account to use it.

Tanking is a job, DPSing is a science and Healing is an art.
If the Tank dies, it's the Healer's fault. If the Healer dies, it's the Tank's fault. If the DPS dies, it's their own damn fault.

That was sooooo cute and sad, it made me teary I'm homeless too... oh well there's always the FC house. lol Except I can't grow my own things for Freedom!!! (my choco) Disappointed at personal housing. Very badly implemented imo. Oh well all I can do is keep saving up for when more wards come up unless they do something about the bad system but being realistic, I don't think they will.

Does the RMT problem that he is referencing mean that SE is losing out on valuable RMT subscriptions?

I'm not sure what he means by secondary characters. Could someone explain that for me?
I have no idea either. I THINK he believes that RMT hackers will buy every house in every ward and corner the farmers market if houses are too cheap. Of course thats complete bull since AFAIK farming requires waiting, and thats not very bot friendly. I suppose its possible however I dont see how persuading more players to become RMT customers is a better alternative.

FC housing being alongside personal housing does work. LotRO has had mixed districts for years. The only difference is they have a dedicated server that just handles housing and is implemented with a system that automatically creates a new ward when all other wards reach a certain population of homeowners. SE's model can work the way it is now, it just requires a vast amount of wards which is the only real hurdle here.

Awesome post, If you where on Hyperion I would love to invite you to our FC, private houses would still be an issue but you would be able to do gardening to your hearts content and give Eli a new look. T_T

    I have to disagree, somewhat.

While I do admit that the dev team has released some gems in ARR thus far, where they are falling short time and again is how they let their recreational content, or "leisure" (not counting seasonal events) and customization become gated behind money sinks and whether or not your FC owns a house (which people are saying is a problem due to housing ward shortages). Nobody seemed to appreciate AF dyeing being tied to multiple 3-star synths. There was noticeable outrage at Chocobo stables being FC-housing only. The devs have gotten somewhat out of hand with how much gardening has become a staple for things like furniture and the only way to customize your chocobo's color (let's not forget cleaning chocobo stables used to rely on gardening as well). Glamour prisms are probably the way they are due to programing limitations, but you can't deny that it feels cumbersome and tedious as a system just to allow you to change your cosmetic appearance. And now "personal housing" feels so rushed out the door just so they could say "we didn't break our promise, personal housing was released before 2.4," while outraging the playerbase with implementation and availability.

The playerbase has every right to be apprehensive about how the Gold Saucer will be implemented and what kind of monetary hoops we have to jump through just to get access to it, or what a huge let-down it can potentially be. And you are right about expectations Mattlex; this patch has solidified my belief that anything the devs try and "hype" up will likely be terrible in implementation or "reserved" for the incredibly rich ("due to programming limitations, the Gold Saucer can only fit 200 people per server, so access passes will cost 65 million gil on a first-come-first-serve basis")

And I do bet that the devs are hoping Shiva and Rogue/Ninja in 2.4 avert the players' attention from how little "twice as much" housing wards is likely going to do to placate everyone on personal FC housing. Of course, those with no interest in their own customizable house are probably just fine with that.

Off topic, but yes actually it IS.

    Why?
Because there are other, more reliable ways to make money in game, and in some cases, even far more efficient ways to make money. Many people assume that 'creating my own' is ALWAYS more prudent than buying but the simple matter is:

    Apples sell for 1000gil

I need 75 Apples (valued at 75000 gil)
In order to farm 75 Apples, it'd take me 40 hours of gameplay (75/40=1.875 apples gathered per hour or 1875gil profit/saved)

    Oranges sell for 100gil
But I can farm them far faster.
In order to farm 75 oranges, it'd take me 1 hour of gameplay
Therefore (75x100=7,500 in profit per hour)

So for one hour of work. You can either gather 75 items and sell them for a net profit of 7,500....or spend the same time and effort, and farm 1.875 items for 1,875 profit.
As long as the demand for Oranges is high, and as long as they sell in high volume, Oranges = +,5625 more profit per/hour than Apples...even though either way, at the end of the day you need Apples and not Oranges. But by farming Oranges, you'd net 4 apples per hour vs 1.875 by directly farming Apples (7500/1875). Another way of thinking of it. It would take 18.75 Hours of farming Oranges to earn the gil to buy 75 Apples....or you could spend more than double that, 40 hours directly farming Apples.

    Try again....

In 17th century Japan, a Samurai lived by a strict code of honor and loyalty to his lord. Honor (and acquiring wealth) was what he lived and died for. In modern day Japan, while many things have changed, honor and loyalty remain fixed within the Japanese character. Key to honor is the concept of “saving face”—the Japanese will go to great lengths to avoid embarrassment. The loss of face is not easily forgotten nor is it easily forgiven.
They may not use swords anymore other than for ceremony, but when it comes to honor, they firmly believe in it, and it matters even in this modern age.

Ask anyone actively involved in day to day transactions with a Japanese company just how much it matters, maybe you'll learn something.
