The only reason I say Dragonkin is because of Yoshi's original comments and the 1.0 players poll;





They fact that they've chosen to go for the least popular option seems a bit odd really.

A dragon/lizard beastmen race won't go down nearly as well as some of the others choices (Viera/Ronso/Burmecians)

Frankly, the whole "listening to the players" thing feels like a farce to me. There just seems to be a gap between the suggestions I keep seeing pop up and what happens in future patches. It would help if we got some more communication between the developers and the player base. The live letters are great and all, but it feels like we're seeing greater and greater disconnection from players and developers as time goes on.

Well, having being a draconian race would make sense with her covering up due to the war between Ishgard and the Dravanians. Initial thoughts of seeing of seeing a Draconian style race could and probably would be met with fear and probably violence as could be viewed as being part of, or at least in league with Ishgards sworn enemys.

By not revealing she has the chance to get a reputation of not being an enemy thus reducing the chance of hostility when she reveals herself.

Or I could be totally wrong XD Just have to wait and see.

Bangaa or Nu Mou I could see happening. Both are vaguely scalekin, Bangaa more so that Nu Mou.

Racially* Ronso are just large cat-people. This means that they overlap with both Roegadyn(large people) and Miqo'te(cat-people). That means that it would take a lot of work to not make the race seems superfluous to a large number of players.


*Not culturally. Important distinction. Culture can shift from setting to setting while Racial traits tend to be fairly static.

By that logic then the supposed Viera we're getting/expecting are Mi'qote crossed with Elezen. Yeah its bunnies instead of cats but honestly its the same difference. Id honestly just like a new race. One that isnt as much smooth-skin humanoid as pretty much everything else we already got. Something liken to Worgen (WoW), Charr (GW2), Draken (Wildstar), etc.

On the topic of a truly beastial new race... The big question becomes, then, WHY are they part of the player race collective? The current five races are all very similar in basic structure; they all have strong human-like traits. If we were to get a new race like the Ronso... Well, Ronso are pretty much as inhuman-looking as Amal'ja and Ixali. So why do Amal'ja and Ixali qualify as "Beastmen" when this new race joins us as "non-Beastmen"?

I think this is a can of worms that SE is likely to avoid opening. Whether bunny, lizard, or something completely unexpected, I'm pretty sure that the new race is going to be very humanlike in appearance, with only size/build/animal-bits to differentiate them from the other five races.

Indeed, and I hope that's what's going to happen. I'm not a big fan of non-human faces (IE: Muzzles, etc.) On humanoid playable characters.

If the beast tribes ever become playable races, I'm SO becoming a Qiqirn!

There's already a thread ddedicated to asking players what "other" race they would be in real life. Sorry if I can't post this as a reply UNDER your post, because I've hit my daily limit for posting replies, even as level 50.
