Also, with Novus, you can meld the weapons without grade4 materia...the gain from maxing Crit/DET vs a Crit/DET/SS build is not actually a ton...and the ones for which it does matter are also the ones on/have cleared T9, getting their i115 weapons...
Novus was already expensive due to supply and demand for materia, all this update did was make it much worse. I personally was already on the fence of really bothering with a novus but after this i am glad there are other options because i probably won't bother at all with novus.
This will only get worse, You already have a ton of RNG to deal with, now you need to have some serious gill in the process.
And as lagomorph pointed all, all this will do is catch the lazy/weak people off guard and they will start buying gill more to "catch up"
Sometimes SE does not seem to realize some patches hurt more then help.
To the people complaining.... have you even tried SBing the old way yet? SBing gear below ilvl55 always SBed faster which meant more chances at T4 materia (I'd get 4-8 T4 materia from 3-4 sets of below ilvl50 gear in the past. Has this changed now?)
From my testing today I have only gotten 2 IV Materias from SBing 5 sets and have only seen another person get one once. This was using the good old South Shroud way.
New data incoming on SBing {Please check it.}
Gear precisely 10 levels lower than the mobs now spiritbonds at an insane rate; someone bound i90 in 4 runs in expert dungeons. There should be MORE T3 and T4 materia floating around post-patch than prior, if people take a moment to think about what gear to bring into which dungeon.
I've been SBing ilvl70 pre patch in drexpert in 4 runs so don't think much changed here.New data incoming on SBing {Please check it.}

Well if you look at the new Beast-man Dailies it seems that SE WANTS you to craft stuff. So umm good luck?
One thing is correct, the cost of materia is getting a bit silly now. 600K for a single savage might IV here whilst craft's command IV is in the process of hitting 400k per.
As mentioned, people doing novus have to suck it up and pay these prices, also note that the ilvl 90 crafted accessories are anything but redundant. If you want to do Savage coil chances are you have at least 2 pieces melded for vit. Normally I would cap Det as well, but not at this sort of cost =(

How does this change help crafters?
I don't think you understand what that word means. You're also simplifying the OPs argument which is that after making crafters mostly obsolete (along with gil), the relic weapon quest suddenly demands hundreds of thousands of gil (yes, even if you completely avoid IVs) to millions of gil.You're also totally ignoring the fact that no one knew what the Novus quest line was going to entail. When it came out, a good deal of players were either farming ATMA or completing Animus books. Opting to drop the relic line after so much time and energy was put into it (especially for those who obtained a relic pre-Echo outfitted in Darklight or less) is not something people want to do, especially when the reason is: massive gil sinks, RNG crafting, and hard to obtain materials.
You sound like someone who doesn't craft or gather at high levels. Do you have any idea how annoying and expensive some of those materials are to obtain? Then there's the number of people who are actively making or gathering it. Some materials are expensive for no other reason than that there's very few people trying to obtain it, or the ones capable of doing so are keeping it for themselves.it's funny. people cry about the cost of crafted gear, but they have no issues with throwing up things like tawney latex at 50k each. the cost of the gear produced will be directly affected by the cost of the materials to make things.
the point is the dungeon folks are making their gil on the front end and the crafters are making the gil on the back end. both groups are making gil unless you expect that 1k you get from clearing a dungeon to cover a piece of gear that cost 500k to make without doing anything else to make that gil.
Also, blame SE for making huge myth sinks that directly affect the price of myth mats. There are a lot of DoW/DoM that would gladly buy myth mats and sell them (thus driving down prices with a lot of supply) to get rid of their excess myth if they didn't need it to buy Alex maps, animus books, super duper enchanted ink and lord knows what else.
