I've never been apart of an MMO community that found everything so difficult(news flash it isn't) and was so scared to attempt content. If all you're gonna do is spend a 2 hours a month playing an MMO you need to find a single player RPG to play. If you can't put the time into a time sink(MMO) then you shouldn't play it, if it's too hard for you stop crying about the difficulty and get better.

From the forum posts and G/chat in game, I am not so sure whether people are more afraid of content or other players. I am extremely fortunate to have a static where we all learn together without repercussions. However, if I was forced to learn any fights, outside of 4 mans, in a PUG, I am not sure I would have attempted or conquered much at all.

Because it is fun? This is a game, right?

Man I forgot we were all working instead of playing a video game.

Peoples concept of the value of time is so wonky these days.

Fair enough. I'm just trying to point out the issues with trying to be sarcastic in a type only setting.

I'd like to see more meaningful open world content, no more currencies, and a beefier armory system.

I think SE is smart in adding more and more open world content to the game. Providing a variety of ways to accomplish the same thing is always a good thing. However, I do get bothered by things like timers and lockouts. The fact that an entire menu in our GUI is devoted to timers just irks me a bit, and even more so when it feels like we get one more timer to keep track of each patch. I would rather see a more organic way in slowing down players than literally locking them out of stuff. We really don't need any more currencies and I'd rather see SE stick to the ones we have rather than create a whole new one with a whole other set of rewards.

The armory system could take a looksee... I recently went back to FFXI for old-times sake. The sub-job system never gets old. Yes, some combos are imbalanced in a variety of ways, but the system always felt impactful and interesting. A sub-job can have dramatic changes in how the primary jobs plays. They've hinted at a possible revamp in 3.0, so we will have to see. The progression for any one job is pretty much the same, especially with much of the end-game rewards built around tomes.

The crafting system is nice, so I hope SE continues finds ways to keep both crafters and gatherers relevant to the economy and fun to invest time in.

Oh, and of course, lastly, some open world dungeons... like old school, EQ/AC inspired dungeons. We do have the beastman lairs, but those lack the mystery and design quality of some early MMO dungeons.

I've got a bit of travelling and stuff to get done here at the end of this year, so I will be cancelling my sub for a few months, and I was thinking if I do decide to reactivate it. After missing months of content, including a major patch and a minor one or two, I would probably be able to catch up on storyline/unlocking everthing/leveling rogue/and getting used to the new trivial things like personal housing over a weekend or two, and that makes me kind of sad. Probably the only things I will really end up behind on are the next step of the relic, and leveling my chocobo.

The problem with open world content is that 1) the world is tiny 2) teleports are everywhere and instantaneous. It really comes in the way of ballancing. See hunts, they would have been more than fine if people couldn't warp everywhere in 5 seconds.

I LOVE open world content, but I dunno how they can get around these two things.

Maybe in the expansion they can create areas that actually are 1) big 2)hard to reach 3) without teleports.

I don't see this happening unless they change their philosophy of how they are making the game. They are making it so only a few small things, like the relic questline, are meant to take time, everything else is meant to be able to be accomplished by being able to just log in for an hour or so. That's why coil isn't really a raid, it's this cut up turn thing that is maybe 5 minutes or trash then a boss fight. It's why all the new dungeons are streamlined. Their claim is people don't want to have to take time to travel, they want instant. In the 1.0 you had teleports, but that was based not on gil, but on anima (I think is what it was called) a limited resource that regenerated over time, and it was easy to deplete fast, it was a commodity, people would make alts just for teleports, I gurantee you hunts would have been tons different in that world.
