Daily/weekly content tends to do that to every MMO I've played. It turns them into jobs. The most fun I had with this game was during the beginning. I could log in whenever and play at my own pace. There were days I was obsessed with dungeons and do only that with different classes. For a week I got obsessed with crafting and did only that non stop. Some days I would't log in at all and it was fine. Taking a break for a couple of days prevents the burnout and keeps things interesting and fresh. I did whatever I felt like doing.

Daily/weekly content changes that. You have to log in for the day and do the dailies. It is all so predictable on what you're going to do today, like checking boxes on a checklist.

The modern MMO industry - indeed, the online games industry as a whole - has been engineered around 'addictive' (really, just habit-forming) psychological tricks for the past 5 years. The daily/weekly model is basically engineered to form a habit to log on n times per week to do y activity. It's pretty deliberate and frankly another 'ethical' unethical tactic that's justified by profits in our modern game industry.

Here's my advice: if you don't find what you're doing in the game intrinsically rewarding or enjoyable...stop. You'll have more time to do the stuff you *do* enjoy both in the game and in real life, or maybe you'll unsubscribe forever because you decide that FFXIV isn't fun for you in the first place. In which case, you probably made a good decision.

The beast dailies are nothing more than 4-5 quests being rotated daily, hardly "content" worthy.

SE writes off this as "new content" when in reality, it's just little tidbits of add-ons that will keep you entertained for a few hours.

Hence why we have the "lockout" feature.

This is SE's way of turning 2 hours worth of content into 3 months.

So before you ask, "Why restrictions!?" the better question would be, "What exactly am I in such a rush for?" There really isn't a super-ultra-mega-OHKO-itisdangeroustogoaloneheretakethis-Godmode Boss that you need to be equipped for.

Hell, almost ALL the content is synced, so why would you need to be able to spam everything in one night?

Hopefully the expansion will shed some light on this gloomy situation.

In hindsight, you are being held back from seeing the game but... I believe a lot of people will be upset when they realize they can virtually do all the content that has been released so far over the course of the year in about 3 days.

Comes with the territory. After all, they are in it for your subscription money. Drawing things out is how they keep you coming back.

Some players are so addicted that can't really see how boring the games is, because the game keeps them hooked whit a shinny reward after every corner.
The main reason they have these lockouts is to ensure players keep subbing. SE need dat money lol, otherwise, this game is really redundant.

It does feel like a job. Clock in, do your work, clock out...Only difference is, you aren't getting paid, you're paying SE monthly just to do the same junk everyday.
This is one of the reasons why I quit. It gets really boring. If things are not fun, it's time to up and leave for a while till something new happens.
Dunno, I do not think have x amount of versions of Primals are fun. They're re-using the same god dang things...and the HM dungeons, are pretty cool, but essentially the same
assy dungeons we've done already, and pretty much look the same.
Games also a themepark. Enjoy the rides 500 times...then you wait for new rides.

Also like to add; while a theme park game, I'm seeing more of new rides, but a lot of it is a knick-knack in the corner that are kinda broken [Hunts?], and/or
a different colour of the same ride [HM dungeons] and some new mechanics. [HM and Primals], new toys that look ugly or no one cares for [ST gear for IE...Like Scylla ST gear...actually most
the gear in ST looks like a hot mess.] It'll get better in due time, just be patient...that's what I always say.

Yeah, it forces players into a pattern of doing things that isn't the best for maintaining interest. I've trained myself to work against it as much as possible, but weekly caps and lockouts kind of sting after a while. We're getting some alternatives introduced (the hunts being practically mobbed because it lets HC players actually do what they've always wanted), so I'm less hard on the issue than I used to be.

I dont do any content apart Expert roulette / Coils / helpin people and Frontlines and i'm fine. Why would you want to do all the content all the time to stay competitive ? competitive vs what exactly ? you cant battle on all the fronts o.o

Soldiery/Atma/Hunts and so on are indeed grinds, but let's not pretend FFXI did things any better, because it did not.

As has been said before on this thread, the model for MMORPGs is to keep you playing. Now whether your own compulsions push you to cap soldiery every week and do all beastman dailies and get a drop from ST and clear coil, that's really up to you. The game's design does have a hand in instigatiing addiction-like behavior, but I'm of the opinion that the responsibility still falls on the individual.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

To the OP, If you think FF14 is boring, you obviously have not check with FF11, as much as that other game has improved itself by leaps and bounds, in the span of a year (tons of great updates) - FF11 is still worst when it comes to grinding and options. Endgame is pretty much delve, merited BCNM or grinding till your head explode to farm dynamis or salvage.

    1. Farming grind: you are stuck with Dynamis and Salvage, throw in Limbus if you want, or Assaults, Einherjar and Walk of Echoes. But overall rather boring and grindy, doing those everyday pretty much eat over 4 hours of your time - more if you spam Walk of Echoes. FF14 has better options compared to this.
    2. Farming endgame: At this point, pretty much all you do is Delve 1 or 2, neither are very PUGs friendly, and you must have specific jobs to be able to clear these. Most returnee are being told to level Bard, White Mage or Stun Lock Scholar if they want to have any chance to advance, gearing is not as friendly as FF14 (or easier to be honest). Shouting for these three jobs can take a good 20 mnts to over an hour or longer, for a 45 mnts content. If you think waiting as DD on duty roulette is bad - you have not try FFXI.
    3. Daily: you get Record of Eminence there, that's it. Here there are so many options to do, and you don't have to do them all. FFXI also has logging points campaign, which force you to log your character (and your army of mules) if you want to reap most benefits. At least here has more options.
    4. Special BCNM: in order to do this, you have to get merit points (which is an hour or so farming mindlessly for EXP...). Here you just go sign up for Duty Finder and go back do other things while you are waiting.
    5. Levelling up your alt is beyond a nightmare in FFXI: you literally doing nothing but AFK or opening chest... mind numbing boring is putting it mildly.

I would not be surprised that in a year or so, FFXI will turn into FF14, there are so many great things from this game that are ported to FF11 now. Slowly but surely changing FF11 to be more and more up to par with its lovely sister, FF14. Both games are a grind, each has their own plus and minus. Granted things are a bit more slower pace for 11, less hectic and chaotic when it comes to battle mechanic and the only thing that is hard about 11 is you cannot see the Boss special attack (so you have to stun it or wipe). Otherwise you sit pretty, spam macro, and auto attack + unleash your weapon skill. Choose your addiction carefully.

Lol , i actually readed all thing you wrote . From your "PoV" game need everyone log in everyday for long time etc to "be more effecient" , but actually it's not . Sure if player desire to grab everything "Right now" like a maniac , he forced to log and do everything w/o sleep & job and life . But look @ it other way , game will be here many years (i hope so) you can log and do daily stuff actually not everyday , and in end achieve about same progress (maybe bit slower but still it is)
