I would like to point out to everyone that catching 3 Olgoi-Khorkhoi is nowhere near as time consuming or difficult as catching our 20 HQ Silver sovs was... and therefore, has almost no feeling of accomplishment.
Then, the fieldcraft demimateria IIIs that we need aren't obtainable by fishing or desynthing fish. Our only choices are to either shell out tons of gil that we don't have (because fishing wasn't designed to make lots of gil), or to level an entirely different crafting class other than CUL just so we can desynth lvl 70 gathering/crafting gear and hope for a demimateria drop. It's possible that prices on the demimateria may fall in the coming days, but with lvl 70 gear needing to be desynthed, it's going to be super expensive. And even after basically doing this merchant quest rather than fishing, it's only an increase of 10 gathering over our Forager Rods.
Needless to say, I'm very upset with how this was implemented. Instead, we should have a unique, untradeable demimateria that can only be obtained by desynthing 2 star, green legendary fish, and then with a low drop rate. If it were like that, then we could obtain the demimaterias very slowly by, surprise, fishing! I cannot agree with basically just buying our new rod. It's not in the spirit of fishing, and the patience of job signifies, nor is it even fair to require the same number of demimaterias on miner and botanist as fisher when those professions were designed to be connected to the economy and make gil and ours was nerfed to a hobby.
What would you guys say to a unique, untradeable demimateria that only drops from desynthing 2 star, legendary fish instead?
Vancar, you had it close, but missed it due to one teeny tiny fact. There isn't a single i70 piece of gathering gear that is craftable. To my knowledge, and please correct me if I am wrong, the only i70 Gathering gear that exists are the ones we get for Umbral Rock (HQ), Fragrant Log (HQ), and Silver Sovereign (HQ). All these being Forager's Hats and primary tools. Yes? No? So somehow, we would need to acquire about 100 Foragers Hats (at a 10% desynth rate), to acquire 10 Fieldcraft Materia III's, and then somehow a Mastercraft Masteria. Am I missing something here?
I'd say give us the mats to make our high end fishing stuff. Hell, I'd go as far to say give us special lures for more specific fish hunting or the material for it from the desynth of fish. The fieldcraft demimateria at least would be viable because I'm sure there are a great many players that have mainly FSH and CUL capped to compliment each other. The drop rate versus the npc sell price of the clear demimateria is horrid so why bother? Curious to see if 2star fish have rare mats though..
According to the forums and Reddit posts where people have desynthed 2 star, green fish, they're made of sand, pigments, and tier III clear demimateria, which are more expensive vendor trash. Sort of fitting that our vendor trash fish desynth into more vendor trash heh.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm off to fish me up a few of these!

Yes :/ Honestly it doesn't seem like it's worth it to bother with the new rod. My tomato pie will probably be good enough to catch all the new fish anyway.
@ 333 gathering I got "Your gathering rating is insufficient for landing this catch."
