I've already been blamed for cheating the system somehow after riding around on my Gold Magitek mount. I laughed because I had just popped back in from perfectly tanking a Garuda trial with 6 commendations.

I'll just quote one person, cause... well, I'm seeing this argument a lot.
And it's extremely flawed. It wouldn't surprise me if none of the people who have bringing this up have not obtained their achievement at all.
A lot, in fact, most of the time when doing short repeatable content, there is no one worthy of mention. And no chatting is done either.
And runs like these actually occupy the biggest part of venturing. So people who say "oh what an asshole, he isn't handing out commendations" are IMO being extremely short sighted, seeing most of the time no one merits a commendation.
You know, there's something wrong about essentially getting praised (commendation) and expecting to get a reward out of it lol. I mean, I'd hope people don't expect money or something if we're part of a team working on a project IRL, when someone on the team says "good job" to them. Heck, I'd hope people ingame don't expect something out of someone saying "GG" to them after a run. When I'm saying something nice, or even giving out a commendation, I see it as just fluff. You don't need to be rewarded for being nice (or trying to be). You don't need to be rewarded for helping someone else. It doesn't have to be meaningful to give or receive with something like this. Or do people need to be sincere in taking the second or two to type out "GJ" or "nice job" in party chat before they actually do it?I'll just quote one person, cause... well, I'm seeing this argument a lot.

Not to give a commendations to someone or anyone that you deem worthy, is your own choice.
These are rewards for players, by players.
I even don't know with your reply how you managed to get any..
The give and take (take-take) until I reach my goal and then gbye everyone, is that attitude that for me you don't deserve any.
Reminds me of homework, that some will do ONLY if they receive a candy after doing them.. /applause
So even if everyone says here that you should give, we all know your the one to decide behind that keyboard.
My FC mate that has reached his goal, same with me, make a macro that from the start says:
/p Heya all ^^ Lets have fun! By the way, please give commendations to someone else, as I reached the cap, thank you!
The problem with SE: you never know if they will add more achievement reward over the 500 limit.
Then you continue doing your thing, and.. giving is free, takes 2 second, and after 5 per week, give another free 1000 gil.
I am capped just like U with all jobs. They will one day raise that cap, so the XP you are striving for might be ok.
People need to start thinking it's not a solo game, it's an MMO. Your personal achievements vs everyone's.
Except the 1% at the top, everyone else will end up having the same stuff, no one is truly unique, specially the easy 500 commendations among other things.

Heya Welsper59,
Your post is very true.
So far, communication with PUGs
Heya all ^^ (no answers)
gj, ty for the run (sometimes gg as reply)
Really, that's about as much as you get.
What a beautiful Eorzea..
That's why I don't pug much at all (except leveling in DF sometimes). It's just not as fun, and mainly that I don't care to gamble with whether or not I'll run into the typical neanderthal. When I'm with folks I know, or the uncommon socially acceptable pug, it's just fun and games usually... good times for all, even if you don't quite understand the jokes, at least you know you're with seemingly good people.
Not that there's anything wrong with being quiet, I can get behind that. Just say something meaningful if it seems like it'll be a detriment to the group not to.
I remember a thread where a few individuals said "typing in chat is a waste of time" and something along the lines of "if people want to chat they can join a FC".
After reading that I left the forums for the rest of the day.
Heya Alistaire ^^I've said right out in parties "if you feel like commending me at the end, don't, hit my 500 already"...and still get commended. So I gave up saying that pretty quick.
And why would you say that? They're completely right. I generally don't withhold unless everyone's been terrible one way or another but that's certainly happened more than once. Commending would just be encouraging bad performance and/or behavior at that point.
The commendations you might receive when no one talks: could be Japanese or someone that doesn't understand English
Every time i have the chance to give a commendation, even if we are 3 from an FC, if that person stick with us until the end, and we beat all: he'll get 3 commendations.
Good or bad, we don't care. He won't get better with them, or worse without them.
I think it's flawed in the fact that it's letting Humans judging Humans in a game.
So bear with me, have fun, talk a bit, and voilà, you're on your way to get your ugly-colored mecha hehehe
*And yes Alukah: if they so want us to join an FC to chat, people will do all content within FC only, and they will start crying that the Tanks and Healers are missing.. lololol
Yes, please give the boosters more reasons to clog up the queue.
Over 700 and still hand out comms to those who impressed me. Whether it's someone doing a bit extra or a new person visibly improving.
One kinda person I will never give comms to, no matter how good they are, is those who ask to be commd at the end of a dungeon. Usually those who have asked have been pretty bad anyways![]()
