Yeah, Microsoft's policy is that in a multiplayer Xbox game you only play with/against other people on Xbox. If Square wanted to, they could set up Xbox-only servers for FF14 like Trion does with Defiance or Bethesda with Elder Scrolls Online.

There's not point to an MMO if you cannot play with everyone else. If you only have an Xbox1 and you want to play with your friends on PS4 then you're screwed unless Microsoft wises up and lets FFXIV play on SE servers instead of Microsoft servers. I prefer the SE way to the Xbox only club.
