I would also like to be rid of the fight between Casual and Hardcore. I never saw those types of arguments going around in FFXI. Not on my server anyway. Sure you'd have the occasional freak-out 'cuz someone stupid messed something up Leeroy style, but never did they say "oh it's because they're casual."

Unfortunately, FFXI figured out how to sustain both, and FFXIV has yet to. I'm not saying there aren't plans in the works for XIV, but currently it's been bending more toward the casual side, which angers the hardcore players (or at least those who believe themselves to have the hardcore playstyle) because they feel like they aren't being listened to.

Here's to hoping that FFXIV's devs can create a mixture for both types of players! Which, if anyone's been following (and they have), I think they're going to get it down. We just need to be patient.

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.

OP and followers should be shot.

Just because people have differing schedules and lifestyles, does not mean they want everything for nothing. Speaking as someone who has experienced both sides, I can tell you this.

When I was younger, I was hardcore (FFXI) because video games were my life, I had the time, so why the hell not. Eventually, RL gets you, just like everyone else. You have a job, a family, responsibilities, obligations... Casual simply means "I realize that I can no longer afford the time to devote my life to a game, but would still like to enjoy all it has to offer when I have time to spare".

Halt the ridiculous accusations such as "casuals want everything for free or at rank 1", or "casuals have no skill" because it's not helping you any. This is by far the most offensive thing I've seen on these forums to date. I hope that one day you share a similar story to mine, realize how wrong you've been, and that you pay dearly for it.

You are a disgusting pox on this community and I sincerely hope you burn for it.

And maybe we're not very attractive so offline girlfriends are basically out of the question. 168 hours a week - 28 hours of work - 49 hours of sleep - 16 hours to eat = 75 hours a week of play time.

Really though, this game won't be made for those kinds of people. We/they will run out of things to do. Things may be difficult but nothing will be time consuming. Thats why I bounced.
Never have I been happier to be a 'casual'. Also, I enjoyed the 'did awesome at school so don't have to work' thing, thanks for the chuckles.

I'd say that sums it up pretty nicely. In any other walk of life what people would call 'casual' on here is pretty hardcore, doing 1-2 hours every DAY of anything outside of the weekends is probably regarded as hardcore. It's just unfortunate that people who play in excess can become a bit warped with what's probably an acceptable amount of time by the general community.

I am sorry for this is an old post but.. really? You were the 1st one opposed to my idea of optional cap with greater reward for completion under cap with your hyprocitical argument saying that everyone should be entitled to the same gears regardless of the difficulty (see effort) you put in getting them... You may have changed your mind but it's completely the opposite of your comment above.

On the thread, I think that casuals and hardcore should be entitled to the same stuff but it should be acquired in the same fashion. To be a casual doesn't mean he doesn't know how to play and cannot do hard content. A causal just has less time to spend on a game than a hardcore, but like Yoshi-P said
Casual on the week nights, hardcore on the weekend
That is what I think describe a lot of people.

So yes casuals should be able to get the same stuff the hardcore players get, because they will get them the same way, might just take a casual player more time to get the good stuff.

There will eventually be plateauing going on(in terms of progress), so i really don't see the point. As long as most people can seem to "complete" the game before the next expansion (or close enough), then everyone should be fine & dandy.
[Note: Hopefully each expansion doesn't make the previous obsolete however]

There still should be "Relic" type items that are very long term oriented items, but made in such a way that the community won't require everyone to have them in order to be invited.
