What's with the new players today?

What's with the wave of new players that lack not only knowledge of their job but also common sense?
Every day when doing roulettes I come across new payers, mostly tanks, who don't talk, rush in, go Leroy Jenkins style, don't bother with flash or any other hate gaining tool, and don't take advices when pointed out.
I used to enjoy being with new players because it was a rush free, exploring and learning atmosphere. But now?
The other day even, Darkhold popped and the tank was new. I could see that because he got hit by the eye all the time, and was a bit clueless about what to pull or when. I said in party chat "stay in the light, the eye won't hurt you when you're in the light". Nothing. I was on scholar, and one blm was also new and got hit every time. So we wiped eventually in that room at start where you have to unlock the gate and there's many mobs and one safe place. A bit annoyed, I said "so you guys still don't get the light thing?" and we returned. I then say "tank, if you are new, just say so, no crime in that, just don't go reckless and clueless when you have to guide your party" and he goes "FUK U BITCH". Needless to say I left.
So that's what we have for new players? I can get the being new thing, I really do not mind. I'm happy to help out. But seriously, I do wonder if they are RMT or bots, they don't even ask things or say hello.
And the common sense... I get that you are learning your job, fair enough. And I get that you don't know the dungeon mechanics. I don't want people to watch videos before entering a place. But I also don't want them to play a vital role like tank, which is supposed to guide the party through the dungeon, and being completely oblivious about what awaits ahead. Really, please, play dps or healer, something that doesn't have the responsability of being the party's head, learn your dungeon, and then go tank it.
It's really very rare today that a new tank actually asks for guidance. And some might find it disrespectful when we as old players expect them to know everything beforehand, spoiling it all. But please see it also from our point of view, not only that we did all this already, but also that you might be disrespectful to us expecting us to watch you guide your party to yet another wipe, cause you won't ask or answer and want yo play it your way.
If spoilers really are so important to you that you MUST learn not only the dungeon but also your job your way, and you refuse to talk to your party, please refrain from using the duty finder. Form your own party with players like you, storm into things, and enjoy.
You play with 3 or 7 other people (not gonna go into CT), consider them and ask yourself if we all have to play it your style, or you might wanna adjust to our style.

There is a fair amount of truth to this, and there seems to be a new, decent-sized wave of new players otw up to 50 recently. The main problem in my opinion is, they don't seem to know what an "MMO" stands for. They get to do things on their own and assume it's a single player game and then proceed to ignore party chat. Others are more like some of the crowd already at 50 doing endgame with their poor attitudes saying "Screw everyone else! I want my loot. Don't tell me how to play!"...which more often than not results in no one getting loot at all. There have been a few exceptions, and even some that remain silent the whole run seem to pay a little bit of attention to what is said in party chat, cause they actually seem to learn what needs done, and this makes me happy to see.

Here's the thing: They're new players. They'll figure out real quick that they're not going to get very far without cooperating with other folks.

However, what I have noticed from both rookies and veterans of this game is that ego tends to screw things up for everyone. If a rookie has an ego, they're probably not going to be receptive to advice. If a veteran has an ego, they'll most likely talk down to a rookie and give them advice in a very condescending manner, which would do little else besides make the rookie feel like they're being insulted or even attacked by the veteran because of their lack of experience.

It's a slippery slope and I really hate folks who let their egos rule their actions and their words because words that come out of an egotistical mouth usually do more harm than good, but unfortunately, that can't really be controlled by anyone other than the person with the ego themselves.

Unfortunately, this is the sort of community we get with a theme park style MMO. With the Duty Finder, there is no need to hold tight to your reputation as you have the power of being an anonymous stranger most of the time. It's the price we pay for faster party building. I believe this is what people mean when they say they can't stand the "WoW community", because that game is well known for demonstrating this principle.

Our community is a thousand times better than WoW's, even with the occasional...winner, yeah, I'll go with that.

I think it's safe to say that there's a lot of people who are trying out this game that haven't tried other MMOs before because it's the most accessible MMO on console platforms. And while I don't necessarily agree with the idea that console players can be infantile, you do get a certain segment of people who can be like that.

That being said, as a console gamer myself, the good thing is that not everyone is like that. Unfortunately, hardware parity (the lack of a working keyboard) and education ("Did you know that you can use the PlayStation App on your phone with your PS4 and use your phone's virtual keyboard to type?") prevent these same players from communicating effectively with people who do have keyboards.

I also agree with Vahlnir that we have a very different community here in Final Fantasy XIV and the Final Fantasy MMOs in general. My experience has been that we're more welcoming and open than most other games in the genre.

I was with you all the way until the above quoted. I don't agree.
Darkhold popped because of roulette, right? Roulette is for new players, it helps keep the older dungeons that need to be cleared in use. If the new player is a tank, just roll with it and try to be patient. And of course if the person is disrespectful and unwilling to learn, you can lose that patience, that's completely understandable.

But in my opinion, we should not expect new players to just level a class other than tank for everything when they want to play tank. That's unreasonable. Let them play as they like.

I've encountered dudes like this a bunch, an ya it sucks every time. I usually end up leaving the pt because of said peoples attitudes. I mean, I've been yelled at before for messing up at some point, as I'm sure many of you have, an I'm sure there has been times that I lost my temper an said things i shouldn't have to people once or twice for doing some idiotic stuff, but I don't understand what people are thinking when they will cuss someone out an chew them out for trying to help them.

Well to be fair the idea of a proper rotation might seem completely foreign to some players. Trying to tell someone that the combat in this game isn't freeform at all and that you're supposed to follow a very rigid pattern might come across as offensive. Because the game never tells you you have to follow that rotation, it just gives you some skills, some of which work together, and lets you do whatever. So he might not even see the game the way you see it.

For some reason I was inspired to make this gif.
