Scholar in Support role...lol. SCH healing isn't that BAD.
Scholar in Support role...lol. SCH healing isn't that BAD.
What if they made a fifth slot, and made it Support/DPS? (Basically fillable by either, but would prioritize Support>DPS)
This would alleviate que times, while giving us a spot for a specific class-type, allowing Bards and the new class (if support) to fill the role more readily.
I disagree with this for many reasons
1. Where is Archer? I am guessing Archer you would throw into DPS. So that means another one thrown in to the dps meaning higher que times for all that are listed. I am sure many of them are saying thanks but no.
2. SCH is a healer job. Yes they start off as dps, but they are healers. What you are proposing throws 2 healers into one party. Putting all the dps on whoever is lucky enough to get into the duty. For some parties, that could end up with the duty failing cause of not enough dps out put..
3. Bards are dps with support skills. We are one of the best dps at the moment (there might be those that disagree, but since bard has zero down time they can usually put out constantly on an enemy unlike others). We can put up a song to help others in our party. But this isn't like the old days in FFXI where all bards did was play a song and then stood around for the rest of the time. We are a dps with support abilities. That is the bottom line..
With all that being said, Light parties, parties in general are fine the way they are.
So far I've only seen a scholar solo heal turn 5. What are we talking about again?
This talk about SCH being a lesser healer, and support instead, reminds of that historic moment in the beta test where some party didn't want to believe that MRD was a tank class, and wouldn't have me in their group for Tam-Tara even though they spent an hour shouting for a tank before there was a working DF. If SCH was really a weaker healer, one full-party's tank would always be destined to die on anything where the healers have to focus on one tank each, i.e. Caduceus after a split. Also, the special effects from the fairies are limited to two different types, so you have either one or the other (Silence and Spell Speed buff, or regen-like ability and Skill Speed buff), and usually don't have any time, MP, or Swiftcasts to swap them out all willy-nilly in the difficult content.
Essentially though, there's merit to the Support role as a concept. I am also reminded of this Ifrit HM not too long ago where the DF group somehow ended up with four BRDs. That just shouldn't be a possibility!
That said, it's not a matter of shoehorning existing classes and jobs into it when they're clearly already firmly in one role (BRD is the only oddball in the mix), but rather, introducing new classes and jobs that fill that role along with BRD so it doesn't bottleneck the duty finder.
That would still create a problem since "support" by nature are next to impossible to be properly balanced when comparedf to one of the trinity roles. Not to mention it would screw DPS out of spots in larger group comps because now they have to make space for the "support" class. What if they made a fifth slot, and made it Support/DPS? (Basically fillable by either, but would prioritize Support>DPS)
This would alleviate que times, while giving us a spot for a specific class-type, allowing Bards and the new class (if support) to fill the role more readily.
PS: Bards are DPS with cooldowns, not "support".
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
Do you play scholar? Also, the special effects from the fairies are limited to two different types, so you have either one or the other (Silence and Spell Speed buff, or regen-like ability and Skill Speed buff), and usually don't have any time, MP, or Swiftcasts to swap them out all willy-nilly in the difficult content.
Eos has (and only has) the healing buff, damage reduction, and regen. Selene has silence, spell speed boost, skill speed boost.
Edit:
First sentence should read: "Bro, do you even Scholar?"

2. I don't see how worst of the 5 dps is one of the best.
This thread isn't gonna end on a good note. Bards are really good dps, scholars are amazing healers, not sure why you are thinking lowly of them :/ Even when I had no LB at dual brd parties, they still pumped nice dps and we finished our duties fast enough. And I feel much more comfortable healing with a scholar in 8 man parties than with a second whm.
