You see that's the difference between hardcore and casual players. The true hardcore gamer is content with long mindless grinds in a broken game with no content as a long as they retrieve a trophy that says "I'm better than you". No gear swaps means they can't show off those trophies they earned so now they are upset.

Hardcore players keep saying "casuals want everything easy", "they want the same stuff I have without working for it". In reality casual players just want to be able to log on and PLAY A GAME. I don't even consider myself to be "casual", but I want to be able to log on and have FUN. You can keep your uber weapons that take years to obtain, I never wanted them.

I did not revive this thread nor did i force anyone to click on it. thanks for your versions of hardcore/casual I personally find myself somewhere in the middle, as for time3-5 hours a night normally. I think a casual would be more likely to only log on a few nights a week a few ours a night. I like to play a daily so i can keep my ranks up with certain members and continue to rank up together.

As for the time thing, i hate it when people say 'well im more busy, that shouldnt make me gain lessbecause i have a life" when in fact it does.

guy1) works 8 hours, spends 5 hours playing.
guy2) works 8 hours, spends 2 hours playing.

Guy one makes the effort to play more, because he so chooses to with his avalible time, guy 2 makes less of an effort, because other things are want/need for him.

If you enjoy any hobby you'l put more time and effort into it, so you should gain more for it (it can be applied to almost anything in life) If someone enjoys it less and puts more time into other things, he will and should never be as efficent or good as the other person.

Stick time and effort into ANYTHING in life that has to do with this sort of situation and 9 times out of 10 the person who put more of it into w/e the thing is, will be better at said thing.
Playing a game is playing a game. Noty working at a job. That is what most people seem to not realise. I will play games when I feel like it. Why should I be forced to play a game just to prove i'm WORTH playing with you or any other?

MMO are not really hardcore games. Just games meant to be enjoyed over a long period of time. Not hours, but days weeks, mouths possible years.

I love how people use the term effor in mmo now. I love how they make it seem you must "work hard" to "have fun". Abd that isn't really the case.

Anyway I really wish this thread was deleted a long time ago. It is nothing but insults that were really uncalled for. And only sought to divide what "little" playerbase we have.

The bigger issue in ffxiv is the simple fact NO ONE TALKS. Not in their guilds and not outside of them. I'm waiting on the community to improve and the ps3 launch till I start playing again. My brothers laptop can't handle the game.

In my opinion gear swaping was stupid. I have tried it and though it was stupid. It is hard on a healer when your tank gear swaps at the wrong time and blames you for death. When npo one realised for a ps2/360 player if you gear swap. We lose you as a target and can't really heal you. Gear swaping made no one better either.

I just want to comment Kilta that the whole gear swapping removing your target was a problem in FFXI, not in FFXIV. In FFXIV, if someone is selecting you and you change gear it doesn't deselect them.

And the reason why gear swapping did seperate good and bad players is some people understood that most gear was situational. A lot of people would say OMG THIS PEICE OF A EQUIPMENT IS GODLY LOOK AT ME WEAR IT. Where a good player knows that's only good for when I'm resting, or for that two seconds I'm casting then I need to switch to something that has auto refresh or this is good for weapon skills but I need to switch to this to gain tp and this tp set is good if the enemy is easy to hit and this tp set is good if the enemy has high evasion. A good player understood the situation and adjusted.

I'll miss gear swapping but I don't think it's necessary for FFXIV to be fun. And it is a completely silly notion (changing pants in the middle of battle)

I prefer to call myself a "Gamer" as I'm both Hardcore in that I play a lot of games for hours on end and "Casual" in the laid-back way I play.

Edit: as a reply to post after this one. If a player wishes to be superior to me and earn the respect that I'd give to a superior player, they'd have to fight a HNM naked.

I see your point, but thats just a good player in a terrible situation(game design)
In ffxiv i think a good player should b able to select one set of gear that will be best suited for how they are playing, lvling, nm's, uh, uh, thats pretty much all the game has now but you get the point. I dont think that people swapped gear out of necessity as much as they did to make them feel superior, IMO.

You're probably right. Gear swapping was silly and I wouldn't call it the greatest idea. But I hope they think of something to replace it in FFXIV because static battles that are the same all the time are tedious and boring. Sadly gear swapping was one of the only ways you could strategize in FFXI. When I play I want to show the world I'm thinking about my actions rather than just hitting a button every chance I get and I want this fact to make a difference in my ability.

no offense but u people don't know crap bout me, i can give to cents about showing off my gear, i enjoy having it, and in all honesty i expect everyone around me to have them, ...getting this gear doesn't make me feel superior to anyone, at some point or another most that gear is obtainable by all. i enjoy collecting gear, the time it takes or challenge is 2 different things, but i'd expect at the very least challenging.

u put in the time u deserve more, even in a casual world it still works that way. in reality no matter how casual the game gets ....most of u will still be sitting around on your ass waiting for others to make party's for you, or create a dungeon group for you to join while u sit afk playing your ps3's or psp, nuthugging your wife and kids or whatever else it is you do while others still do everything for you.

im not content with brainless repetitive things as you say, your the ones that have been content doing link leves for progression, not i. is understandable to want to be able to play a game where the time u have to play equals a good overal time of progress but content itself will be a joke in this game for least a year or two, if not indefinite.

my biggest problem is it all going solo friendly, it don't matter how little or lot of hours u play. you can put as many people in a server as u want, it means absolutely nothing if there isn't lots of party play to do. offline games are become less and less offline as well, u can easily play offliners all day long and still have 2-4man things happening all the time. and gamefly subs = new games all year. so dunno what it is anyone see's in solo play mmo's.

like i said, they need to start creating multiple types of servers, then we'll see who runs to who's server knowing they will always be miserable people always complaining an never being happy.
