A lot of people have been asking for more 'open-world' content but what if SE could make a 24-man open world instance?
Imagine a line up of monsters and mini-bosses just waiting for the tidal wave. Could be awesome.

In a way, I see what you mean. It's possible that like FFXI, eventually there will be so many jobs that it's impossible to fine tune the balancing. It's at times like that, we may start getting "proc" type mechanics on the mobs, where you need an ability from a specific job to weaken/progress past it.
FFXI was a group focus game. Guilds were close and did most things together.
FFXIV is more play at your own pace, don't need guild to get things done, and plenty of soloable content.
Hence why FFXIV should keep party size small. I prefer a more group focus mmo but it's more of a hassle in this game.
Good luck getting a group of 24 together at non peak hours.
They should just make some equipment from 24 man content to be on par with other top tier 8 man content. Variety is always good.
Oh jesus no. DPS queues are sleep inducing, Crystal Tower queues are even worse. If I had to deal with that for an entire update of endgame content, i'd almost be discouraged from doing anything.
8 players is more than enough, the current duties and bosses are easily complex enough to support this. While CT is certainly awesome, I think FFXIV's best moments are in its 8-player primal / coil fights and puzzle enemies. Adding alliances makes it quickly go from complex to tedious -- i doubt there will ever be a 24-player boss as tight-knit difficulty wise as something like EX Titan or Levi.
It would just be way too infuriating to play.

I'd rather some proper 16-man content before 24. It's hard enough getting 7 others who are competent enough to know/learn their jobs to the point of being able to clear Turns 6 through 9 with some practice and patience.
Preferably without the DF menu so we can use our own job setups, unlike CT which is still a DF-only affair. You don't need 6 tanks & 6 healers in an alliance of 24.
This ^^... What I see in this thread (not what was written) is that people are scared of a 24 man raid group, and are scared they won't be able to find 23 other cold people. They like their little 8 man raid group because they are cold and are doing well in second coil... Gaining gear, gaining items, and laughing it up at the few that can't find great groups calling them noobs, and casuals. What's wrong is what this gentleman said. You have free companies filled with many members only for the main 8 people to move along in battles, while the other people that might be just as cold as them, get stuck with the other guys that don't have what it takes. One of the best things about FFXI was that you could have a variable number of members for events, which made doing things as a linkshell easier and people were rarely left out. Whether it was Salvage, Dynamis, Einherjar, Sea, Sky, Limbus etc. The best players could also "low-man" or solo things with clever strategy and good gear. When HNM spawn windows clashed you could send different groups out to camp things or split up to farm pop items. Was way more fun than having cliques within the FC. It seemed reasonably balanced too.
When the group in the company says lets do Leviathan. You better be first to say "Can I go?" because if your not they will be full, or most of the time is already full. It would be nice for the "Free company" to tackle content together. Forget just 24 man battles, there needs to be a 64 man Dynamis in this next expansion. A place that drops curse AF that crafters have to touch, and has all kinds of places. Dynamis Lominsa!! Wouldn't that be interesting. Free company Dynamis night!! That will bring the free company together. But saying that 24 man content would be to hard to find competent players is no different from the man yelling finding 7 other great players is hard... Should we make a 4 man coil for them?
The game should ultimately go this route making it even harder to find that high tier gear with having really great free companies tackle 24 man and 64 man content. It can be side level like the other stuff is, just with a little better stats and i-level. We could call it relic AF, reintroduce ancient currency, and let the unbelievable raids and boss battles begin!!! I promise you that the memorable moments will come when you have to log in Monday for coil, Tuesday for Sky, Wednesday for Dynamis, Thursday for Sea, weekend primal nights, this gets the free company spirits rising, knowing that every day you have something to do with your free company and doing this the memories will come.
Better than a man logging on seeing this group of 8 doing something... This same group of 8 doing something.... Hell.... Free companies should be a 24 man max if that was the case lol... 24 for large content , and 3 raid groups of 8. LMAO what you need 100 members for?

Sadly its not the game that makes it a hassle... It's the people... And people thinking like this will always make it a hassle.FFXI was a group focus game. Guilds were close and did most things together.

we got 6 8-person statics in our FC.
