Done wow for years and stopped just before Pandaria, at raid farming stage (capped armor sets/gem/ench/everything and doing raids just for the fun and chat talk with friends while doing that). Stopped only to search for new things, no hate things towards that

Both are solid games that have nothing to share with all the rest lying in the f2p. What makes difference at this point, is the community and its management (response time to reports, etc).

Excluding the little group of friends I made, I left a community really poisoned, that judges you only by your armor. And gear checking scripts helped that a good way. A community where damage/heal meters taking precedence on overall.

My opinion, the difference between solid games (and both are) is made by the community that grows inside. Despite the average threads in forum, here still there is a good one. But it is slightly poisoning over time. Warning!

Both games are good and for different reasons. What FFXIV could really learn from WoW is plainly and simply -- PVP...

uhhh no, Read the first sentence over. That applies to mobs as well. The second part was focused on pvp, but the statement still stands. You choose what fights you(flying mount), which is different then you choosing what you fight(ground mount).

Wow has also been out for far, FAR longer.
So far, I feel this game is trumping WoW in both raiding and dungeon difficulty as well as vanity options. It's still VERY MUCH a growing game, and should be treated as such. You won't get everything in the first few months, let alone year.

I do kinda miss the Battletag thing from Wow, simply because of the fact that I felt like I used mt friend list more to communicate with friends, instead of just using it to get mail from people. Right now if some one adds to my friend's list.... i just forget about it. :I Then again, I also liked the battle tag messages, but that may just be me.
And pet battling.... I...I liked pet battles... D:

About PvP, I'm still avoiding it. But if and when something like CTF maps comes, I'm sure to go have fun there, because I'm more for overall-scenario-tactical PvP than bloody arena PvP.

WoW is really fun when it's new to you. After playing for 5-6 years, though, it got obnoxiously boring to me. Even new raid patches weren't exciting to me anymore. WoW is definitely a good game, but having said that, I'll never go back. I haven't played WoW in over a year, and even now the thought of going back to play it repulses me. My fond experiences in WoW have long come and gone.

The mod will put up huge text on your screen telling you to run away from the group, and it will even give you an audio clip telling you to "Run away, little girl, run away..." If you have a CHOICE regarding whether or not you want to usethis, fine, but many raid leaders back when I last raided seriously (WotLK) would check to see if you had it. DBM had a functionality within it for raid leaders to see who in the raid was running DBM, and even what VERSION they were running. Most mods are supported by Blizzard unless they enable you to cheat in some way, so many players used it. I personally thought having things spoonfed to you made fights too easy, and I enjoy the fact that FFXIV has a lot of mechanics that you really just need to understand.
While that is true wow never had huge markings where attacks would land. Just imagine doing titan X without the markings on the floor, you had to calculate where the attacks would land and doge them like that. I still remember Heigan the unclean where you have the move from place to place to not get 1shot in a certain pattern and without those markings on the floor that is suddenly not so easy anymore.
Btw i am wondering, what mechanic you really need to understand? the gigantic icon above your head during twintania? or the huge markings on the floor during titan?

Everybody, to a person, that I have ever talked to that played WoW has claimed that they were in a "top raiding guild" with a bunch of world firsts.

I think you are not being truthful.

You forget DBM never added skill or reflexes. Much of the community had it, sure, but those same people couldn't even complete regular raids much less even consider ever touching heroic modes.

As a healer and veteran of both XI (3.5 years) and WoW (5ish years) and endgame raider in both... I welcome DBM type add-on for XIV. I also welcome Ora3, Vuhdo, Power Auras, Dominos, Tidy Plates, Quartz, Pit bull, etc. Most of these are UI add-ons because blizz's default suck, but frankly XIV's isn't much better. Rift also had similar add-ons to all these.

However, the point still stands: the vast majority of those who have problems with XIV fights now, still would even if DBM existed in this game.

Add-ons do not play the game for you, nor do they explain fight concepts.
