Coil 1 was fairly easy, now Coil 2 is a nice step up in difficulty but still isn't too hard in my opinion. The only way you will get better is if you and 7 other people put in the time and practice doing the fights. There is no other way around it besides buying a carry from an already skilled group.
I saw a troll thread before I even opened it...I responded to someone other than the OP for this reason. :P
I learn as I go quite well. Though it could just be my dammed good reflexes with the dodge mechanics. But dodging and healing. I'm a fresh 50 as of a few days ago. I've already done hm primals with ease. (had to basically solo heal titan since our other healer couldn't dodge anything but ls and thought it was smart to stand by the tank. It's not hard. It's not even memorisation half the time. It's common sense, which is a useful thing sadly lacking from most of today's world.I agree. The game is very fast paced and requires you to try and try and try again to get the hang of some of the end-game fights. The fights require you to always be in panic mode and I am amazed on how easy it is for a party to be wiped if things aren't dodged and timed at just the right time. Any end-game battle you go in to requires you to know the fight beforehand, there is no "learn as you go" and definitely no watching the cut scenes.
FFXI at first was a grind fest, you needed a group for everything. You were able to solo if you did the same thing most solo'ers did which was sub job ninja .-. most solo'ers were rdms and ninjas in my server but I've heard of others. At some point they tried to make it more solo friendly, gave you books to do a bit and finish something like challenges/quests.
I don't really recall quests giving much if any money at times but I haven't played in years, literally years. I hear now it's much easier to level, you can max in a few days or hours really but back then? Pffffft it took a lot of time for some people to max at all and even if you max'd really there was the risk of level down (losing a big chunk of exp) every time, there was also a lot of time put into stuff like sky and people were REALLY dedicated to that stuff.
However there were a lot of fun moments in the game when I personally first started playing it, there were a lot of new people just like me and I had a ton of good moments. I really can't say up to 'now' but I can say my experience with FFXI was overall neutral, I have good and bad memories of it.
Also for the EX part, I personally feel like even if you watch a video, it will never teach you everything to expect. That is however just me, I often need to work on my reaction time and try to remember the pattern I learnt even if I did see a video.
I do however jog it down to study it and yes... to some it may be sad or silly or unneeded but... I do it. I see videos but I sometimes get too tired/bored seeing just a video especially very long ones which kills my short attention spans so I try my best by jogging down what I can at that moment then resuming another day.
Titan ex move list for example: (please keep in mind that it may not be 100% perfect)
Landslide > Plumes > Mountain Buster > Stomps > Repeat.
-80% HP Jump-
Landslide (3-way) > Gaol x2 > Mountain Buster > Upheaval > Landslide > Stomps x4 >
Plumes > Mountain Buster > Landslide > Plumes > Bombs > Mountain Buster >
Landslide > Gaols > Repeat.
-Jump into Heart phase-
Plumes > Gaols > Upheaval > Landslide (5-way) > Stomps > Plumes > Mountain Buster >
Bombs > Landslide > Stomps > Repeat.
-Earthen Fury-
Granite Gaolers > Mountain Buster > Bombs > Landslide > Plumes > Gaols > Mountain Buster >
Upheavel > Landslide > Mountain Buster > Stomps > Double Plume > Mountain Buster > Row Bombs > Landslide > Mountain Buster > Super Bombs > Stomps > Plumes > Geocrush > Repeat.
I agree it does take a long long time to actually get use to it, sometimes it feels like you're just suffering with nothing but multiple losses and no real experience gain past a certain point which does feel really hopeless and... really annoying.
However I really want to believe that once I down these guys I will feel a certain sense of achievement for just sticking at it for a while and not giving up. @-@

Apparently grammar is too hard too.
And this isn't a troll post, this guy legit is on my server and I was even in his fc once. I know he isn't trolling because I've seen him talk, and it's strikingly similar to this post he made, surprisingly!
I don't get why everyone assumes a post that is written kind of sloppily is a troll post :P

it requires a small amount of memorization and the ability to pay attention at least half the time. not that hard. people are just bad
This game isnt hard at all.. but i find it annoying when i play my part perfectly 10 times in a row but still wipe to someone in the team taking a nap in boss aoe.
