    Opinion:

This is not logical to me. If you think about it, just making ^this statement invalidates it. When people say things like this it is because party play is important to them. They like to party. They don't want to see party play take a back seat or somehow get messed up.

Simple fact: People will party simply because they want and like to party.

I will say what I always say to this kind of statement. If nobody parties when partying is not enforced, what does that really say about party play and people?

Either the scenario you have described is incorrect or nobody really likes parties and secretly only want to solo. If the latter, a game should be built to maximize enjoyment of the players, not force them to do something they dislike. However, I think the former is the real answer.

that's like a story of a person who wants to make money and is a brilliant scientist. hes offered a salary of 1,000,000,000/year to develop a new rocket, but he decides instead, to be an artist. he knows that artists only make 10,000/year, but that's alright because its what he wants to do and he can still make money doing it.

these things don't happen very often do they?

without parties being the most lucrative option, parties will be a rarity. the players that do decide that they will sacrifice the accomplishment of their goals in a reasonable amount of time and play in parties are too few and far in between that they never actually can coordinate to make a party.

for parties to be a viable option you have to give incentive to form parties. the majority of players have to see partying as the best way to accomplish their goals or the whole concept of party play gets thrown to the side - this is not true for solo play. if a person decides that they want to play the game alone than they can do that whenever they want to, they don't have to coordinate with other players to set up solo play.

making parties is difficult, the players who spend the time to make them should be rewarded for doing so, not punished - if you spend the time to set up a party you should be able to acquire faster exp than if you hadn't. its a game of incentives for the developers, if you want your game to have parties, you make incentives for players to make parties, if you don't make those incentives, you don't have parties - either way you will have people playing alone.
