It only has to be the main target. I was running Halatali Hard for the book and so was another BLM. He was alive when we killed the bishop (quest target) but died when we killed the last mob remaining..he still got his book award.
But I have noticed again that a good portion of the FF14 "community" is quite a special one. Egoistic and totally uncooperative. Doing Hauke Hard, another player told the party that he is doing an ATMA book and asked to be revived on last boss in case he dies. Healer took it as his special goal to NOT heal him during the entire last boss fight and took care not to revive him when he died although the player asked several times. Some people seem to get their fun by ruining it for other people. Disgusting. Since this, I know that I will never ask for support when I need a boss kill for ATMA. Because out there in the wilderness that is DF, you won't get much of it.
Wow, that's pretty harsh... if you die an unfortunate death a split second before the boss dies, you have to start the entire dungeon over? I can picture going "STAHP! EVERYONE WIPE! I need this boss for my book".
Should just make it so that it counts as long as you clear the dungeon.

Thats why healers are back in the power seat when there is a book to be finished XD
You want your atma to suck souls even while you're laying dead on the ground?
Be careful what you wish for.
Same works for usual hunting log (well GC log) , i remember was need Halatali 1st boss (fire elemental) got killed , boss died i didn't get credit ;(
I'd report it.It only has to be the main target. I was running Halatali Hard for the book and so was another BLM. He was alive when we killed the bishop (quest target) but died when we killed the last mob remaining..he still got his book award.

As a healer myself I'd never even think about doing that intentionally.
You mean the potentially worthless tank and/or healer need to make sure you're still standing. It's a stupid and frustrating "feature" that you need to be alive when the kill happens.Hello!
Just to confirm, the target you need to defeat in the Dungeons category of your book is listed as the boss itself, and it’s not just a matter of completing the dungeon. However, you need to make sure that you’re still standing when the boss is defeated to earn credit!
Actually, I experienced this very issue in GC Hunting Logs in 2.0. I was face down during a boss in Halatali NM and didn't get Hunting Log credit for the kill. I don't think anything's "changed" here, per se.Indeed. 2.2 changed the requirements for kill quest - You have to be alive for it to count. A friend of mine encountered the same problem when it cam to his Hunting log for the Grand Companies - He was kiting the ant adds in Cutter's Cry and died just as the boss died. We had to abandon and try again because he didn't get credit.
It's not stupid. How can your book possibly think you killed that monster if you're face down on the floor when it dies? How can you collect its soul when you're out of commission? It makes perfect sense that you have to be alive to participate in the kill.
Frustrating? Sure. Stupid? Not really.
I guess... go with a friend who is a summoner as back up res? :/
