Let us all make a deal: In game ALWAYS put on your happy face!

I have seen alot of terrifying things in this game. People swearing, calling each other names etc. etc. etc. But what good does that make? It is not like it will turn them into better players but more likely will make them mad and annoyed and feel bad.

Everyone, please. While playing this game, act good, act happy! If everyone acts nicely the people they will meet will also be nice. Wouldn't that be the best for everyone? Doesn't we all play this game to relax after a stressful life, to escape to a happier world?

Didn't you know? Berating and insulting people makes them more cooperative and play better!

I feel your frustration, but after trying to make a difference myself, I was convinced it wouldn't happen. As described above, you have to make tangible rewards to bribe people. Even SE knows this (commendations), and after the rewards are had it's back to the same downward spiral as before.

Good luck to you though. Maybe you can have better influence than I could.

I seldom run into bad (with bad I mean their behaviour, not their playstyles) players and I want to think that the fact that I am always sweet and honest towards them is one of the reasons behind it. But I want to see more of it for everyone else! I want a community of smiles and helpfullness instand of one filled with curses and greed. And the best way to get that is for as many as possible to start that wave and to keep it up even when meeting bad people.

Behind the monitor we are safe. Therefore being a bad person is safe to do so... because we'll never see them in real life and they can't do anything(physical) to us. Yes, we can still get banned, but when one has nothing to lose (such as those on the verge of unsubscribing) that's pretty much just a trigger for the "I'd like to see things burn before I go" mentality.

Trying to ask for politeness in general is like asking people to stop piracy. It'll never happen. Hell a bunch of people are probably putting on that 'fake' smile all day in real life and are just sick of being nice, and what better place to vent than to berate someone that you'll never see and don't care about?

Not that I promote the vulgar/toxic community... but at the same time, from a realistic perspective... you can't stop it. Furthermore, to be honest, I'd rather have someone truly smile than just force a smile on someone that just did it for the purpose of ignoring me.

I always wear sincere and honest smiles while playing this game This game makes me feel happy, so just playing makes me smile! But what would you prefer, a community full of people yelling at each other all the time or a community full of people who greet you and are nice to you? I think too many people forget there are sitting other people on the other side of the screen :/

Good point about the IRL thing though. Yeah, I know alot of people have frustrating lifes and that they might want to take that out protected by anonymity on strangers as you say.

I'm not like this... I had to check myself when I went to help some people fight Titan ex, and we kept wiping, and I was mad and told them I had to go by making up some excuse... I apologized to those guys, rounded them up, and eventually got the win!!

The "time" makes people like this. Duty finder, and parties wanting the best players, die 3 times we'll kick, die to something stupid your gone. So if a man is in the middle of a Titan run, and he drops his controller for some reason, and dies. Oh he's the sorriest man in the world!!! Kick him!!

We have to learn to be more patient with others. I read on here about a FC that does Primal learning sessions every weekend?! Wow... I commend their whole group, because they are not trying to be the best themselves, though they are, they are trying to make the realm, and players on their server better.

So the next time you see that guy who looks sorry as hell... Help him out, give him a few kind encouraging words. Let him know its ok, and that he will get it. Ask him what he's having issues with, or if he has any questions. Through a better community, we can make this game feel like FFXI's love. I have a linkshell that are filled with some of the most generous people I know. I wish I was in their free company, but I'm a loyal guy. When I make a commitment to a free company. I don't walk away for something better. Unless the free company collapses.

EDIT: Oh, and if you are mad, or you feel like a party sucks, or if you simply have to go because you are running out of time... Please tell the party... Don't DC on purpose, or just leave the party without saying a word. I think the party deserves the right to know why you are leaving. Like do we suck, or do you have something to do, or is there something someone needs to change about their playstyle? Never telling a sorry man what he's doing wrong, just dumps a sorry man back in the pool of endless players. Make a sorry man good, and maybe he teaches 4 other sorry men what you taught them. It's a game we are playing. Play, have fun, laugh at failures, correct them, and smile at hard earned victories for yourself and others.
