New to the game, melee feels "immobile"

I am new to FFXIV, however I have played many other MMOs. I usually Tank, but offspec as melee DPS if it calls for it.
I'm playing DRG and I'm having fun as I'm leveling up and looking into what's expected of me at cap.
What I'm not having fun with is a sort of "mobility punishment" that melee faces. I mean that with a large amount of point blank Area of effect spells, I have two options, Elusive jump out (on a 3 minute CD) or use sprint.
Now, I know casters have it worse with having to stop casting while they move, but with having a 20 second sprint (since TP is never used) on a 30 second CD seems broken.

What I've seen of melee (Dragoon with HT buffs, and Monk with GL stacks) if we stop attacking at any point, we risk having all of our buffs fall off and having to ramp up again.

Are there any plans to address this? Again, Melee should feel as is if they can stick on a target and not lose dps, and not feel as if they're "resetting" their rotation.

You never have to use an ability to escape an aoe. React faster.

Except for a select few fights you should be able to walk normally out of aoe range in the vast majority of cases, i.e no sprint required. If you fail to do this it's probably either because you lag terribly, or you haven't set the legacy controller settings. What happens when you press back button, do you walk backwards or run in the opposite direction? If the former, there's your problem.

lol, All I can say is GL on Titan EX x.x
I mean the aoes are a joke for me, I could go get a cup of coffee and get out in time.
Be aware that u can still move back into the aoe once u dodge it, even though the aoe mark is still around, this is critical to know, if u waiting for aoe to disappear before going back into to atk, u are doing it wrong.

Well, my issue isn't the "Moving out of the AoE" but feeling like I go through a "hard reset" on my rotation. If I can't stay in range, DoTs and buffs drop fairly quickly (the 2.5 sec GCD does not help this at all) And that's well that role fulfillment fails me. As a Melee class, I should be able to maintain deeps as long as I'm in range, the "ramping up" doesn't do it for me.

Just give yourself time to learn the game and its mechanics better. You'll know how to dodge, how long you have, how to manage your combos. You dont "really" have to dodge anything until you hit Titan HM. Then it just uphills from there. Ha... ha HaHAHA!

Which fight exactly you're having an issue with?

Honestly, this is a user problem

You need to learn to deal with AoEs and using your rotation properly.

    Practice more.

And yeah...you don't need to Sprint out of anything as a DRG at all (or any class, for that matter). Your rotation has room for avoiding AoEs too (Heavy Thrust has a 20-second duration, Phlembotomize 18-seconds, Disembowel and Chaos Thrust have 30-second timers. You have time)

For a MNK, you don't need to sprint out of anything, most AoE you can run out of easily if you react fast enough. However if you feel you're not reacting fast enough, keep Fists of Wind on, that's a 10% movement speed boost that can really help you get out of trouble (I suggest it for Titan EX, DEM PLUMES).

Like you said, you are still new, being a good MNK/DRG is a matter of practice and getting used to.
At first when I fought titan, I though he was rather harsh on melees, but after fighting him so many times just to help others, I can now call out for others when plumes are with my macro and still do my rotation and dodge everything without issue.
When you play a melee, you have to react faster then most do imo, like in T2 for some of the ads attack like Pac man and Fire cross, you have to swiftly find the safest spot in only 1sec or die. As you get used to it, you'll eventually start seeing moments that you can use to your advantage.

There's a good reason why good melee players are somewhat rare.

I guess it's like if you were doing martial arts, at first it's grueling work, but once you are used to it, you don't even think about it anymore, you just instinctively dodge to the right spot.

The rains have ceased, and we have been graced with another beautiful day. But you are not here to see it..
