I see what you are getting at, but I think you are just splitting hairs.

Fates always drop gil and seals, that may not be what you are looking for but it's a 100% drop rate. My point was if you hate the concept of RNG then you are probably on the wrong track. In the same way that you could spend days or weeks or months trying to get your Atmas, you could do the very same thing trying to get your gear in Coil.

    It's....completely random. It's RNG.

Group C. I'm an achiever. I have no problem with grinding it's just the RNG + Fate is very broken. I'm kind of confused about how the droprate works. Is the % for each person or just the fate itself and only one person get its? I don't think I've ever seen more then one person get a drop for the fate. I was excited about this a first. Now, not so much. I'm still doing it because I want to finish it.

Don't get me wrong I don't hate RNG. I never complained about how it works with dungeons because I absolutely love that. Gives people a reason to keep doing dungeons. Just this type of RNG just seems wrong and I won't ever be doing it again on another class. Not worth it.

The other part of it is that Coil is much more satisfying. It's a clearly defined experience. You go, you do it (and it's significantly more challenging than FATEs any day), something drops, and it's over. I suppose technically FATEs are the same, but they don't feel the same. You're running around a zone spamming skill 1 and skill 2 because you can't access anything else, and as soon as one FATE ends (and yeah, you get gil and seals and maybe some low level crafting mats but so what?) you have to run to the next one. I suppose on a purely mechanical level it's the same as spamming a Coil turn for loot, but psychologically the two are very different. It's kinda like the difference between running on a treadmill (what FATEs feels like) and playing laser tag (what Coil feels like). One is actually fun, and the other you mostly do because you have no choice if you want the reward.

That said, I'm not exactly spending my life on Atma to the exclusion of all else. I've done 31 hours of farming since the patch, and I'm 3/12. I would just greatly prefer it if there was an end in sight, that I could have some idea of when I'll be able to complete it, and luck was removed so that the grind was equal for everyone.
Whether or not Coil is more challenging, is not a point I was trying to debate. I made no points about the content of the Relic Upgrade quest, only the system behind it which is proving so contentious. I am strictly talking about RNG.

I got my relic Atma weapon because...

    1) I enjoy story, and I didn't want to rush through that said story just to be done and spam Leviathan 100 times. (Which if you are truly unlucky like some claim that they are, what makes them think they are gonna fight Leviathan and get a weapon drop, and get the drop that upgrades that said weapon in a fast timely manner. You could very well get mad at that system after fighting him 40 times and not seeing your weapon of choice for some unknown reason.

    2) I like my relic, and I truly believe that Yoshi P will reward those who spend time achieving one. Yes its just a few dmg better than turn 5 weapons, but this is just one phase of upgrades. The 9 books it takes to get that said upgrade is tedious, but when the next patch comes, its time to upgrade again, and patch after that again. So it will be close, probably a little under the turn 9 weapons, but... when everyone's downing turn 9 there could be another upgrade again. The power of the relic could be endless, which is why I wish to complete mines... It's a relic!! LOL

Oh, and yes I did want to make my coil group a little stronger in the DD department.

Maybe if I keep telling people not to do it I can be even more of an early special butterfly because I'll get more stuff before they do thanks to my luck.

I want it, so I have it. For whatever may come. Not for Vanity, not necessary for coil.

I think that goes for C ... or is it D

Group D: people too disgusted by the unnecessary grind to be bothered with it.

Give me an epic quest chain that has you revisiting old dungeons, echo fights, new bosses, and maybe culminating in an echo battle with Nael Van Darnus. Now THAT would be a saga worth experiencing.

The current Zodiac saga (and I use that term very loosely)...well I really have no words that adequately describe how I feel about it.
