New Idea: MINION BATTLE 1.0!!!

This might sound crazy what I'm bout to say...

But imagine if you will a world, where minion and master bond on the field of battle! I PRESENT TO YOU. Minion Battle 1.0! (name pending)

A friend and I were derping around the FC house and realized that if two people used minion roulette at the same time, you could create a pretty nifty little mini game. We haven't worked out all the rules just yet, but it's based loosely off of FFXI's Beastmaster monster affinity chart. (ie. Aquans > Amorphs)

It'd be kind of fun to have an actual, SE sanctioned, mini game centered around minions though right? (a la XI's Pankration, which I wasn't really a fan of). Nevertheless, if they include a /random in the near future, we plan on fleshing this out into an actual fan craze.

I want to say Yoshi-P mentioned this idea in one of his most recent interviews and stated they wouldn't be including a minion battle feature.

No, I don't have a link to support this statement, but I believe it was mentioned in the interview with him and the directors of FFXI and DQX done by 4gamer(?).

WoW copied the idea from pokemon and even FF11 has something long before with Pankration.

I would love to see minion battles but not until Gold Saucer is in the game.

I'd rather they spent their time on other content. FFXI tried some pokemon battle stuff that was promptly abandoned.

So a while back, this question was asked when minions were first shown in beta and he responded with something along the lines of this wasn't going to happen because it's just small scale stuff and it's like other games. He said they'd be focusing on larger scale battles with things like chocobos (which is already in game I guess as companions) and airship/ boat fights (which is something that will be eventually implemented). This is the only reference I can find for the airship building, the other portion I think he posted on the beta forums (which is long gone).

Personally, I'd rather have the airships - I think the overall mechanics of an airship fight would be great!
