Indeed /10charI hope not as well, but there is a natural progression there, especially for theif. Mug is a pugilist type of ability. Also, SE has set a prescident with both SMN and SCH coming from the arcanist class. You could do the same thing with gladiator> dark knight, thaumaturge> red mage, conjurer> blue mage, archer> ranger. You get the idea.
But yes, having a brand new class/job with brand new base abilities would be more fun.
Player
Muskeeteer and Dancer also hinted/teased.
Corsair > Thief + Muskateer
Duelist > Red Mage + Rune Fencer
Pugilist > Dancer
Gladiator > Dark Knight
If hints, we'll find out in 4 to 5 years since thats how long Legacy players have been waiting for musketeer. XD
Probably won't see any new classes until 2.5.
@Ehayte Musketeer is a class so it should be Musketeer > Thief + Corsair
Though highly unlikely. Musketeer is ranged gunner. Thief is dual dagger close range fighter.

ya saw the hints arriving for a while now since 2.X updates are meant to build up and reveal slowly the contents of 1st expansion. Yoshi-P already mentioned that they maybe new classes with one of them being Scout (class that goes into Thief and/or Ninja) in the future.
It is possible that Revnant Toll will become a full scale city in 1st expansion and have some new Class Guild Buildings to go with it as well.
Only new classes mentioned so far are Musketeer, Scout, and Melee Mage.
Not to mention the footage we have all seen of Thancred duel-wielding daggers. In keeping with the very beginning of tradition, Thief (Class) -> Ninja (Job) just feels right. It may even go with the 4th Scout combat style YP has been hinting at lately.
Just don't forget us Dark Knights Square.
ITT WoW invented the use of term "Rogue" in games when it's been used in RPGs for decades before that.
