This is my take as well. i switched it to English after starting my first character, but then i switched it back to Japanese after one cutscene where the English voice acting was so terrible that i started cringing. The pacing and emoting were just so at odds with the dialogue and character actions. Overall the Japanese VA work is much better.

Japanese is so much better. The English one is cringe worthy.

I genuinely and absolutely hate it. I'm so happy not many scenes are dubbed in the game. I'm not sure why they couldn't get better talent, there are so many excellent voice actors out there :x

I prefer French over the other languages.

I preferred Yda's 1.0 voice as it matched her personality more. I do like Y'shtola. I'm not overly critical of the acting quality though. We're not seeing the full context in the previews of what's going on, plus you have to deal with MMO limitations on the facial expressions in CSes. I wouldn't be shocked to learn the VOs were done before many scenes were even animated. Most of Cid's dialog is fine with me except this Praetorium Linkshell messages. Those get pretty bad. In many ways it gets a little cheesy...

But, sometimes, you just need to learn to embrace the cheese.

The only voice I like from the dub is Gaius, due to Richard Epcar, and even I feel like that's not the best Epcar can do.

Oh the irony in this one statement. Its Japanese audio.... Jap, I don't think this means what you think it means...

Anyways, ignorance aside. I prefer the Japanese audio. The only thing is very few scenes were VA out. I know there were some scenes that should have been but weren't. Also the Praetorium scenes with Cid can barely be heard. No clue why, but I left it as is. I wish there was more VA in the game to keep it consistent, but I will take what I can get.

The English voice acting isn't stellar. I WOULD use the Japanese voice acting except that I understand Japanese and the difference between what's being said and the english text ends up being more annoying to me than mediocre English voicing. If you don't understand it and want to use Japanese voices with English text more power to ya. The Japanese voice actors ARE better but that doesn't mean it isn't still cheesy as all hell (cuz it is). Overall I still use and prefer the English localization.

In a few words, the voice acting borders on bad too much for my tastes.

I'm also used to reading dialogue off a text box.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
